Featured Categories in Wikipedia

A featured Category is a software feature of MediaWiki. Categories provide automatic indexes, that are useful as tables of contents. Together with links and templates they structure a project (though are not necessarily featured articles). A featured category represents Wikipedia’s best work by thoroughly covering all parts of that topic. Each of the pages in the Category namespace represents a so-called category. Links articles that share a similar structure and are well-linked with each other.
