This is the first part in a series of five articles that were split from List of jazz standards for article size concerns. It has been completely rewritten since, and I'm nominating it for FL because I think it now meets the FL criteria. A peer review was made when this article was still a part of List of jazz standards (before 1930), which has now been split in two. The archived peer review can be seen here. Much of the lead and a part of the list items have remained the same since the split. Jafeluv (talk) 01:34, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Is JazzStandards.com a reliable source?—Chris! ct 01:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
:See [http://www.jazzstandards.com/about.htm here] for information on the writers. For information on their selection process, see [http://www.jazzstandards.com/overview.htm#How_are_the_jazz_standards_identified_and_ranked here]. In my opinion, it clearly passes "credible published materials with a reliable publication process; their authors are generally regarded as trustworthy or authoritative in relation to the subject at hand" as required by Wikipedia:Reliable sources. - "; some of the tunes listed were instant hits and quickly became well-known standards, others were popularized later" Comma splice—the comma should be a semicolon.
- Done. Is it ok that there's two semicolons in one sentence now? Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, perhaps we should reword. Maybe "; while some of the tunes listed were instant hits and quickly became well-known standards, others were popularized later"? Dabomb87 (talk) 20:43, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- I replaced it with "; some of the tunes listed were instant hits and quickly became well-known standards, and others were popularized later". Is that better? Jafeluv (talk) 17:49, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Better, perhaps change "and others" to "while others" to emphasize the contrast? Dabomb87 (talk) 18:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Jafeluv (talk) 19:00, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- "The origins of jazz are in the
variousmusical traditions" - Done. Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- You might use spaced en dashes to separate the year from the descriptions. For example, "1901 "High Society"." to "1901 – "High Society"."

- "19th century British folk"-->19th-century British folk
- Done. Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- "Despite being banned from the radio," For what reason?
- The source doesn't say that, I'll have to find another one. Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Couldn't find the source for the reason why it was banned, and the ban was only mentioned in two of the umpteen available sources, so it's probably giving the ban undue weight to have it mentioned in such a short summary. I've removed that part. Jafeluv (talk) 23:35, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- "The song is often called
simply"The Saints"." Unnecessary word; readers can tell that this is a simpler version because it's shorter. - Done. Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- "biggest selling rag"-->biggest-selling rag or maybe "best-selling rag"?
- Done. Replaced with "best-selling rag". Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Link "chord progression". Dabomb87 (talk) 14:46, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Jafeluv (talk) 18:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Sources look good. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:46, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Quick question based on personal preference - chould the page title be List of pre-1920 jazz standards? I hate parentheses in titles if they can be avoided. Matthewedwards : Chat 05:31, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. That's how they were originally titled in my sandbox, by the way. Jafeluv (talk) 06:21, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Done. I'm moving the others as well to match the title. Jafeluv (talk) 06:32, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
