this{{ref|test1}} is a test of footnotes generated with HTML lists in an attempt to get the ordered list item numbers to be active.

Please note{{ref|test2}} that this definitely breaks the generated HTML by having overlapping elements. This is deliberate, but means that this couldn't be used in real live wikipedia.
