The history of the WP:FOUR award dates back to early 2009. This page provides a list of notable events in the history of the award, as well as a leaderboard featuring users who have accumulated over 10 awards.   8. April 17–19, 2009: Discussion among {{u|TomasBat}}, {{u|TonyTheTiger}}, {{user|J Milburn}}, and {{user|Iridescent}} results in {{u|J Milburn}} and {{u|TonyTheTiger}} reformatting the record log to an alphabetical sortable table with dates included.
  9. Mid-2009: Over the course of a few months {{u|TonyTheTiger}} reviews all [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:Featured articles|oldid=148374335}} pre-August 2007 featured articles] to find the oldest Four Award articles.
  10. October 7, 2009: Founder {{u|TomasBat}} retires from Wikipedia with [{{fullurl:User:TomasBat|diff=318560028&oldid=302513166}} this edit]
  11. November 8, 2009: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} initiates a proposal to move project from {{u|TomasBat}}'s userspace to wikispace with [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Four Award|diff=prev&oldid=324683643}} this edit]
  12. November 9, 2009: Proposal discussion closed with unanimous consent among the first 16 respondents in just over 24 hours with [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Four Award|diff=324907472&oldid=324906262}} this edit]. At the time of the formalization of the project, [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:Four Award/Records|oldid=324908250}} 47 Wikipedians accounted for 73 recognized articles] including 6 by {{u|TonyTheTiger}}, 5 by {{user|Ian Rose}}, 4 by {{user|Cyclonebiskit}} and 3 Wikipedians with 3 each. No featured article had been demoted through the FAR process.
  13. February 22, 2010: The project awarded its 100th recognition when {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted Steve Dodd by {{user|Hamiltonstone}}.
  14. March 24, 2010: The project had its first featured article demoted following the featured aticle review of {{user|Marine 69-71}}'s Puerto Ricans in World War II.
  15. May 9, 2010: When achieving his 10th award, {{user|Sasata}} became the editor with the most awards, becoming the second solo leader since users have had multiple awards. (He had tied at 8 for a few days and {{u|Ian Rose}} had tied for the lead at 4, 5, 6 and 7.)
  16. September 13, 2010: Four Award started counting its totals with [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:Four Award|diff=384489797&oldid=383553786}} this edit] by {{user|Little Mountain 5}}.
  17. October 21, 2010: The project ribbon and 10-count ribbon were created by {{user|EdChem}}.
  18. April 15, 2011: Four Award started comparing its proportional articles and featured articles with [{{fullurl:Wikipedia:Four Award|action=historysubmit&diff=424279018&oldid=424277114}} this edit] by {{u|Little Mountain 5}}.
  19. June 2011: Various discussions led to the conclusion that early Four Awards for mere nominations at DYK, GAC and FAC were no longer to be recognized. Significant involvement at all stages is required.
  20. June 19, 2011: {{user|Rjanag}} [{{fullurl:Template:ArticleHistory|diff=435103593&oldid=433911475}} tweaked] {{tl|ArticleHistory}} to accommodate a FOUR parameter that populates :Category:Wikipedia four award articles that he created, allowing the Four Award count to become semi-automated.
  21. June 19–22, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} tagged the first 186 Four Award article talk pages with the parameter to fill in the new category.
  22. June 25, 2011: :Category:Possible Wikipedia four award articles created by {{u|Rjanag}} to accommodate all possible remaining Four Award candidates based on having been past DYKs, past GAs and current FAs.
  23. July 25, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted the 200th Four Award article, Peter Evans (swimmer) by {{user|YellowMonkey}}.
  24. August 21, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted Émile Lemoine by {{user|Nousernamesleft}}, making him the 100th current awardee.
  25. August 24, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted Mark Kerry by {{user|YellowMonkey}}, giving him his 20th award and surpassing {{user|Sasata}} for the individual lead.
  26. August 24, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted T206 Honus Wagner by {{user|Nishkid64}}, becoming the 250th current FOUR article.
  27. September 9, 2011: {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted Second Test, 1948 Ashes series by {{user|YellowMonkey}}, becoming the 300th current FOUR article.
  28. September 17, 2011: :Category:Possible Wikipedia four award articles was cleared out for the first time, with a total of 320 FOUR articles by 130 different editors and approximately one in every 11,689 articles and one in every 10.6 featured articles. This process revealed dozens of FOUR-worthy articles by {{user|YellowMonkey}}, giving him the most in the project with 32.
  29. March 2, 2012: The project's percentage of featured articles went above ten percent, making it possible to change the ratio calculation to two decimal places.
  30. March 11, 2012: The project's first Four Award Ribbon x25.png was awarded to {{u|Sasata}} for Boletus frostii by {{u|TonyTheTiger}}.
  31. August 8, 2012: {{user|ItsZippy}} became the 150th unique editor with a current Four Award when {{u|TonyTheTiger}} promoted Problem of religious language as the 377th honored article.
  32. August 27, 2012: Following the August 23, 2012 removal of Millennium '73 by {{user|Will Beback}} from the Four Award log, {{user|TRLIJC19}} became the 150th unique editor with a current WP:FOUR when {{u|Little Mountain 5}} promoted Give Peace a Chance (Grey's Anatomy) as the 382nd honored article.
  33. December 31, 2012: Following the demotion of South Side, Chicago, {{u|TonyTheTiger}} became the first editor with multiple delisted nominations.
  34. January 6, 2013: Following {{u|TonyTheTiger}}'s promotion of Omphalotus nidiformis, {{u|Casliber}} was recognized as the editor responsible for the project's 400th article.
  35. June 12, 2013: Following {{u|TonyTheTiger}}'s promotion of McDonnell Douglas A-4G Skyhawk by {{user|Nick-D}} and Monroe Doctrine Centennial half dollar by {{user|Wehwalt}}, FOURs #426 & #427, there was 1 FOUR article for every 9966 on Wikipedia, marking the first time there was more than one for every ten thousand articles.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:30, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
  36. August 18, 2013: The project's ratio of featured articles:FOUR-awardees reached 8.99 (the first time below 9) with the promotion of {{u|Casliber}}'s Aleeta curvicosta by {{u|TonyTheTiger}}.
  37. May 30, 2014: {{u|Imzadi1979}} promoted Clackline Bridge by {{user|Evad37}}, becoming the 500th current FOUR article.
  38. June 4, 2017: {{u|Casliber}} awarded the first joint award (after all, we should be encouraging collaboration, right?) to {{u|Ribbon Salminen}} and {{u|Starship.paint}} for Wrestle Kingdom 9. Great work guys!
  39. October 9, 2018: {{u|Casliber}} moved to the top of the leader board with their 34th Four Award.
  40. August 12, 2020: It was established via discussion that co-nominations will be allowed, so long as editors can show significant collaboration throughout all WP:FOUR processes.
  41. May 24, 2024: Following {{u|Premeditated Chaos}}'s promotion of DeLancey W. Gill, {{u|Generalissima}} was recognized as the editor responsible for the project's 800th article.
  42. December 5, 2024: {{u|Crisco 1492}} set a single-day record by nominating 36 articles at once, causing equal parts celebration and carpal tunnel for those who promote.
  43. December 11, 2024: Removal of Four Award for delisted FAs has been deprecated, on the grounds of being a total downer and not really in line with how other content awards work. Former FOURs have been restored to their rightful place in the records chart, albeit marked with †.
