Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no key

i am trying to put in a page number into a citation.98.146.230.82 (talk) 02:39, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:Study this help page: Help:References_and_page_numbers. DonFB (talk) 07:23, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:If this refers to :Ruby Ridge, you have tried to insert the page number within the ref name. This won't work. The reference is used multiple times within the article and the first instance is at the end of the 'Development' section, where the full ref is cited. You could copy the wording of the ref. to the later location, edit it to remove the extra wording and add the page No. |page=XX but I wonder if you are intending to fix all the other missing page Nos. from that report also? If so you may wish to look at :WP:REFB as well particularly the section on alternative systems. Eagleash (talk) 10:24, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text

Working on an article about Chris Manson. Attempting to site different references and I'm running into errors. trying to understand how to properly site references. can you assist? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamchrismanson (talkcontribs)

:Hello, you need to define the references E.g. {{ref content}}. You only need to do this at the first instance of using a particular ref. If you wish to use it again you can then just write . Please see :WP:REFB for more information and :WP:CITET for a list of templates to use. Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 13:34, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:(edit conflict) {{ping|Iamchrismanson}} Other Wikipedia articles should not be used as references but can be linked by placing their name in .... I have eliminated the error messages in Draft:Chris Manson.[//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Chris_Manson&diff=776185120&oldid=776184013] See Help:Referencing for beginners for how to actually make references. Note Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Articles must be based on published reliable sources and not personal knowledge. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:37, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Johannes Ruysch

I tried to edit the first reference because I wrote the paper and am the first author to this:

Moon-struck: artists rediscover nature and observe. Olson R.J.M. & Pasachoff J.M. Earth, Moon, and Planets Vol. 85-86, 1999, pp. 321-323

However is put the change below the third reference:

Moon-struck: artists rediscover nature and observe. Pasachoff J.M. & Olson R.J.M. Earth, Moon, and Planets Vol. 85-86, 1999, pp. 321-323

Ruysch World Map: Census and Commentary, Donald L. McGuirk, Jr. Imago Mundi, Vol. 41, 1989 (1989), pp. 133-141

Marcus Beneventanus, Nova Orbis Descriptio ac Nova Oceani Navigatio, qua Lisbona ad Indicum pervenitur Pelagus, in Marco da Benevento & Giovanni Cotta, Geographiae Cl. Ptolemaei..., Anno Virginei partus M.D.VIII, Roma, 1508, pp.103-125.[1]

Moon-struck: artists rediscover nature and observe. Olson R.J.M & Pasachoff J.M. Earth, Moon, and Planets Vol. 85-86, 1999, pp. 321-323

Can you please help to correct this mistake? Also it would be good to know how to correct in the future?

MANY thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 100.2.90.153 (talk) 13:48, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:I have corrected the error. When editing a Wikipedia article, we don't put references in the "References" section, we put them where they are cited. Then the software displays a little superscript number where we put them, and actually displays them in the references section.

:Two things still need to be fixed: the formatting of that reference is poor; and it's wrong to put a citation attached to a section header, it should follow the statement which it confirms. I will fix the formatting. But I can't move the citation to where it should be, because I don't have access to the source, and so can't tell where it ought to be cited. NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament

Good morning!

It was brought to my attention that on the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament page, under "Championships By School," Ashland should have years 2013 and 2017 listed. Currently, only 2017 is listed. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.241.225.73 (talk) 14:48, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:WP:SOFIXIT. Or discuss the matter on the article's talk page, not here. --ColinFine (talk) 20:30, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

: It has been correct for a week. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:35, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Edit requests on protected pages

How do I get someone to edit protected pages? I made a couple of edit requests a couple of months ago on the Talk pages for certain Israeli prime ministers (to do with the inconsistent numbering of those prime ministers), but nobody has responded to my request.JayZed (talk) 15:06, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:Judging from your contributions, I'm guessing you're talking about requests you made at Talk:Benjamin Netanyahu, Talk:David Ben-Gurion, and Talk:Yitzhak Rabin. If you place the template {{edit extended-protected}} (including the brackets) at the top of your post on each of these pages, the requests will automatically be added to :Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests and will be seen by more people. Otherwise, it really depends on someone happening to stumble upon your non-templated requests and deciding to read them and respond. RivertorchFIREWATER 15:27, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

::{{ping|JayZed}} In future requests it's easier to start by clicking the "View source" tab on the article and follow the instructions. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:18, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Cleyson LeRoy Brown

Can you guys make a page for him? here's a [http://dkcohistory.blogspot.com/2011/01/cl-brown-and-his-affect-on-abilene.html reference]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:374A:8F70:6863:18BD:77DC:9A63 (talk) 15:12, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:He appears to pass the notability guidelines. I'll check the article for creation listings to see if he is on there. L3X1 (distant write) 15:52, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

::He is also on this page. 2602:306:374A:8F70:6863:18BD:77DC:9A63 (talk) 16:41, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

::You also might want to write about the Brown's home (not their actual home, I think) and Brown's park. 2602:306:374A:8F70:6863:18BD:77DC:9A63 (talk) 16:43, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Help:Cite errors/Cite error included ref

I have entered details of my academic and literary career with references which are cited but it seems they are needed again? I would be grateful if you could help by seeing it is in order Malcolm Jack — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malcolm jack (talkcontribs) 15:26, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

: I corrected (in {{diff2|776200191|this edit}}) the numerous formatting errors in your refs. You need to read Help:Referencing for beginners. You also need to read Wikipedia's guidance about conflict of interest. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:41, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Duplicated Contributions: result of today's maintenance work?

File:Duplicate contribs.png

I noticed some duplicated contribution on my page, and they are only on that page, the edits are not down twice in actuality. I asked on Kiwi IRC, and someone else said they were not suffering the problem. Is this a bug? Thank you. L3X1 (distant write) 16:04, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

:It's a bug today for some users. See Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Watchlist screwy. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:13, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Unauthorized password reset attempt?

Recently, I received a password reset notification. It was definitely not sent by me and I do not recognize the IP address. The IP address was 86.123.229.51.

This is the message:

Someone (probably you, from IP address 86.123.229.51) requested a reset of your

password for Wikipedia (). The following user account is

associated with this email address:

(omitted)

Why would someone try to do this? Also, this means that someone has guessed both my email account and my wikipedia username? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bmarius (talkcontribs) 22:34, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

: The e-mail is sent to whichever address you have registered with Wikipedia. RudolfRed (talk) 23:00, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

::{{ping|Bmarius}} Yes, don't worry. It only means somebody entered your username at Special:PasswordReset which is linked on the login screen on "Forgot your password?". They don't know the email address stored in your account. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:13, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
