Report

  • Local Body Elections 2010 *
  • General reminder these is coming up.
  • pages already created for the various races (see New Zealand local elections, 2010 )
  • General discussion about problem with getting official results. The papers have provisional results a day or two after the election and some councils publish them on their websites but difficult to get full and accurate coverage.
  • Since there are a large number of races results should be fairly short for most, just listing winners
  • Articles with missing photographs
  • :Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Auckland and :Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New Zealand
  • Suggested a "Top 50" list be created to give people something to aim for. Especially existing objects that they can photograph themselves
  • Some discussion about getting photographs of people. Simon Lyall mentioned he was going to email the majority of NZ MPs asking for a photo. Problems getting photos of past subjects ( photograph in copyright, difficulty getting image released or finding person to contact).
  • Creation of photo request template to send to people to request photographs.
  • Papers past has some photographs and cartoons (see 1907 in New Zealand ) that may be suitable for articles.
  • Wikimedia New Zealand
  • A lot of overhead in creating an organisation. General feeling that this was too much work and probably not required.
  • Suggestion that contact page be created, protected and authorised by Wikimedia International.
  • Listing:
  • Contact people ( general, media comment, people able to give talks)
  • People responsible for various areas (task forces, sub projects)
  • Links to resources ( Sample talks, templates, copyright information )
  • Involve Māori wikipedia and other projects.
  • Gadfium and SimonLyall to look into
  • Getting monthly collaboration more active
  • Low level of participation
  • Periodic revival attempts
  • Suggested person in charge just decide on page rather than have votes
  • General
  • Some discussion of current topics, war stories
  • Encourage people to contibute to one article per week
  • List of simple things newcomers, schools can work on. Suggestions as to what NOT to create ( articles on school, club, family members) and what to create ( Local MP, Photos of local area, local All Black, etc.)
