Parnell Baths houses the largest saltwater swimming pool in Aotearoa New Zealand. First opened in 1914, it was redeveloped in the 1950s to the iconic (and wonderfully retro) Lido style we know today. Since then, it has undergone restoration work in 2003 and 2010 headed by Matthews & Matthews Architects.

In 2014, for the pool's centenary, the book Parnell Baths: a jewel in Auckland’s Crown was commissioned by Parnell Heritage and the Waitematā Local Board. Authors and historians Sue Monk and Joanna Boileau undertook the research project, detailing over 100 years of the pool's presence in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s community.

The walking tour will start at the Parnell Baths, exploring it’s architectural history and heritage significance. We will then walk to Residium for refreshments and a short tutorial on photo uploading. This edit-a-thon will utilise learnings and content from the walking tour and Auckland Museum’s library resources to enrich Wikipedia articles. Copies of Monk and Boileau’s, Parnell Baths: a jewel in Auckland’s Crown, will be available for reference in new and existing articles about women’s contributions in the field.

All skill levels welcome! A beginners’ tutorial will be run at 10:00am to teach the basics of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia articles that are well written with a variety of references and images are viewed more, and articles that link through to other Wikipedia articles are more likely to be viewed. The focus of this edit-a-thon is improving existing articles and creating links on other pages.

Making Space (ed. Elizabeth Cox) and some of the chapters are in Wikidata - so the unique identifier can be added to the 'add citation' box to create the reference. Using the chapters increases visibility of all the authors of this work so is a great thing to do, plus its faster. Chapters are listed in the Wikidata item on the book linked below.

Retired architects - the title architect can be used for NZ retired architects and architects on voluntary suspension, as long as they are not providing architectural services.

{{Idea}} We have sourced some good refences eg a book, news article, academic article, website. Pick one and add a citation to articles of subjects included. For example the A+W award books or a chapter of Making Space.

• Add one statement and one citation at a time. You are placing bread crumbs into the internet. You are adding to the weave.

• Ask some experienced editors to give you tips for using Wikidata for referencing - and see if the chapters are listed too (has parts).

{{Idea}} Pick an architect you like and expand on their projects/buildings. Look through the [https://www.nzia.co.nz/awards/overview/ NZIA awards] for citations on their work. Try to write one or two sentences about the project.

• Linking to other articles is truly part of what is great about Wikipedia. In the statements you make, include the name of other designers, architect's, engineers, artists, managers (if they are in the references). Make a link if they have an article. Make a redlink if you feel they are notable for an article. Having people named in articles becomes a constellation of visibility.
