Wikipedia:Meetup/WW1 and Dissent
WW1 and Dissent is a series of Wikipedia editathons during November 2014 that aims to improve Wikipedia pages about World War I and dissent; topics might include peace attempts, conscience objectors, neutrality during the war, literature and artwork critical of the war, protests and much more. Most of the events will be held in partnership with local GLAM partners, so will also include topics related to their collections and WWI.

Background
2014 is the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the first world war. Wikimedia UK has been approached by historians and librarians in London and Birmingham who want to work with our editing community to improve our coverage of these areas.
History
In May 2014, Wikimedia UK was approached by Senate House Library and library of Birmingham with a view to running wikipedia editing events on WW1 and dissent. After discussion on the cultural partners mailing list we decided to open this up to enable global participation.
Interested in organizing an event?
- Read Wikipedia:How to run an edit-a-thon if you haven't run an editathon yourself.
- You can run your event on any day, but if you can do it on the 22nd November 2014 get in touch and we will coordinate some sort of Skype link.
- create an event page, something like this might work
- Link your event to the target list, and add any of your targets there
- Include your event in the list below
- Include your event in the category WW1 and Dissent
- Take photographs and upload them to Commons in the category WW1 and Dissent
What if I can't show up?
Contribute online! Check out the resources below, and lists of pages that could be expanded! If you need help getting oriented on Wikipedia check out WP:TWA or http://editathon.org.
WikiMania 2014
Some of the organisers will be at Wikimania 2014 where we may do some coordination
