This is the first pure (.9999) 24-karat gold coin produced by the United States Mint for public usage. The design of the coin is a modified version of James Earle Fraser's design of the Buffalo nickel, issued in early 1913. There is a mintage limit of 300,000 for the coin, which has a face value of $50. |
