It is a photograph of a memorial plaque that I own. If I take a photograph of an object that I own, then the copyright for that image belongs to me. Where is the copyright violation ? (A. Carty (talk) 16:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC))

• You own the copyright in the photo, but it's a derivative work of the memorial plaque, so someone wishing to use the photo would need permission from both you and the designer of the plaque. But when was the plaque created and erected? Stifle (talk) 10:07, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

• The plaque is a 5" diameter medalion not a wall plaque. Over one million were manufactured and distributed just after the First World War to the families of fallen servicemen. The design of the plaque is probably copyrighted by the British Crown. Reproducing an image of this plaque is probably no more of a copyright violation than showing an image of a British medal such as a Military Cross, or a coin of the realm. As for the designer of the plaque Edward Carter Preston, he died in 1965. If this image is removed on the grounds of copyright violation it would cast doubt over a large number of other images on Wikipedia depicting medals and coins. Regards (A. :It is a tiny fraction (<.2%) of the area of the full photo, which would by itself fulfill U.S. definition of fair use (like copying a few sentences out of a book).
