:The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
:The result of the discussion was Delete. Nobody is happy with the status quo, and while several retargetting suggestions were proposed none of them gained consensus and significant problems were raised with them, so I find the comments in favour of deletion the strongest. This is without prejudice to an article on the topic.

Hmm, I'm not sure if this is the correct target for this, or even if this redirect should exist. I think that this could also reasonably refer to the Bolsheviks, their ideology, Bolshevism, or maybe even the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:10, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Comment For comparison, Pro-American, Pro-China, and Pro-Iran are all dab pages; {{-r|Pro-Bulgarian}}, {{-r|Pro-French}}, {{-r|Pro-India sentiment}}, {{-r|Pro-Russian}}, and {{-r|Pro-Serbian}} redirect to -philia articles; {{-r|Pro-Palestinian}} and {{-r|Pro-Yugoslav}} redirect to nationalism articles; {{-r|Pro-Pakistan}} redirects to Pro-Pakistan sentiment; and {{-r|Pro-Western}} redirects to Western World. 61.239.39.90 (talk) 16:40, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

- Comment Using "What links here", I found (only) three articles that used this redirect: Lion Feuchtwanger; Yugoslav Partisans; and Gotse Delchev Brigade. In each case it was legitimate to link to Soviet Union, rather than one of the other topics you mentioned. Bruce leverett (talk) 20:40, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- {{Hidden ping|Bruce leverett}}Comment I don't know that any of those links should target the Soviet Union page. All of them seem to be about support for the Soviet Union, which is not the subject of the Soviet Union article, which is about the former nation, not the support for it. TheAwesomeHwyh 21:41, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- {{Hidden ping|TheAwesomeHwyh}}Comment I suppose that if I were writing one of those articles, I might make the word "Soviet" into a Wikilink that would go to Soviet Union. The use of a redirect, instead, seems odd to me, but I do not have wide experience with political/national articles. Bruce leverett (talk) 21:53, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- It's tempting to retarget somewhere, but I couldn't find any good places. There's Communist nostalgia and Second World, but neither are ideal fits. --BDD (talk) 22:29, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
{{resize|91%|Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.}}Relisting comment: There's been a decent amount of discussion, but no clear sign of what should be done with the redirect.

{{resize|91%|Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.}}Relisting comment: I'm hoping an additional relist will help to discuss the recent suggestion.

- This isn't always patriotism, as support for the Soviet Union is not something only expressed by Soviet people, so retargeting there would be misleading. Peter James (talk) 17:39, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Could we redirect this to Russophilia, possibly? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:34, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
- Delete Russophilia is the best suggestion I've seen here, but there isn't much explicit coverage of the Soviet Union as such, and has the opposite problem of that the Peter James notes for Soviet patriotism (i.e., "[group]-philia" generally means from those outside the group). It's possible this could ultimately be disambiguated, but I don't see a better option than deletion right now. --BDD (talk) 21:52, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Delete per BDD. It's likely that an article could be written about Pro-Soviet sentiment, but no such article currently exists and the alternative potential targets are all lacking. signed, Rosguill talk 22:15, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
