Prince Hubertus visits Commons

A Prince Hubertus visited the House of Commons in 1933.[https://www.nytimes.com/1933/04/07/archives/prince-hubertus-visits-commons-wireless-to-the-new-yoke-times.html] Which one was it and what was the purpose of the visit? Prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince Hubertus of Prussia, and Prince Hubertus of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg come to mind. The first one was a former Prince of Great Britain and Ireland, the second one also a relative of the British royal family, and the third one an opponent of Hitler. :Did you try finding someone with a subscription so they can read the whole article? The transcription only includes the title, unless you have a NYT subscription. Maybe someone at WP:REX can help you dig up the article? --Jayron32 13:34, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

:"Prince Hubertus of Prussia, a son of the former Crown Prince of Germany, visiting London with his cousin, Prince Friedrich". (the article is only one sentence long). -Nunh-huh 13:58, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

::I did consider that, Jayron32, but I did not know where to find someone with a subscription. The reference desk turned out to be the right place. Thanks to both you and Nunh-huh! :) Surtsicna (talk) 14:27, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

:::WP:REX is usually pretty good. I've had good response times, and you can usually find helpful people who have just about everything. Glad to see Nunh-huh was able to help! --Jayron32 15:01, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

:In the meantime, a good rummage through the bowels of Google found that "During the year [1933] Prince Hubertus, and his cousin Prince Frederich, two grandsons of the ex -Kaiser, toured the Protectorate" (South West Africa), from [https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.80095/page/n143 The Annual Register of World Events: A Review of the Year, Volume 175]. Probably not much help though. Alansplodge (talk) 17:18, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Lots of public libraries have database access to NYT archives, so if you have a library card you may be able to access those archives online. You don't need a personal NYT subscription. 173.228.123.166 (talk) 20:51, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

:I asked a friend who has NYT access to look. The article is just one sentence. It refers to "Prince Hubertus of Prussia, a son of the former Crown Prince of Germany", visiting England with "his cousin Prince Friedrich", so this'll presumably be the same traveling companions that Alan found, but I won't try to identify which Prince Frederick the cousin was.

:Oh, and not surprisingly it says "New York Times", not "New Yoke Times" as per the New York Times page linked by the original poster. --76.69.46.228 (talk) 01:42, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

::"On Saturday morning, Prince Hubertus, of Prussia, the ex-Kaiser's grandson, and his cousin Duke Friedrich, of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, left Croydon at 9.20 a.m. in the German air liner to return home following their short stay in England. Prince Hubertus left the air liner at Amsterdam ; the Duke, however, continued on to Hamburg", from [https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=u3APAAAAIAAJ Flight International (1933) p. 358].

::This would seem to be Friedrich Franz, Hereditary Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin who was an SS officer. Alansplodge (talk) 18:11, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
