All of these users have edits on very similar pages, most commonly on those related to women's college basketball teams and standings. This has been consistent for many years, including with accounts that were previously banned due to confirmation of sockpuppetry.

There are a large number of examples to support this evidence, so I will list a number of examples for each user.

The examples I will list here is a common disruptive edit this user makes, which is to put incorrect dates in the templates of college basketball standings. If you look on Lewisthejayhawk's talk page, you will see that the user was given a temporary ban for very similar disruptive edits in the past. Specifically in these edits, the user continues to (incorrectly) change the date to one that is in the future after being told numerous times not to do so.

:How the hell did the college basketball editor get linked to Dereks1x in the first place? It's not apparent in any of the investigations here. Dereks1x edited political stuff and had nothing to do with college basketball. College basketball editor certainly is guilty of using multiple accounts, and I'm astounded at their persistance in trying to contribute to Wikipedia. I guess they just think getting blocked repeatedly is normal on Wikipedia. The way it stands now, they have no hope of ever being allowed to edit unless they admit to being Dereks1x, which doesn't appear to be true. Run a check-user to confirm that college basketball guy is Dereks1x. Plantdrew (talk) 16:49, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

::{{u|Plantdrew}}, Zzuuzz linked him via a CU block log. Kb03 (talk) 17:17, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

:::As I explained at User talk:SpaceCity713, I did confirm it to two other blocked accounts (both blocked by TonyBallioni). As I also indicated, and is often the case in times like this, I can't directly link the account to the original Dereks1x account. What we do have however, is a line of sockpuppeting going back to 2011. I can approach this with an open mind, however, given the nature of Dereks1x's block log and user page, it's imperative that any appeal goes through Arbcom, and preferably someone familiar with the case. Feel free to counsel this user to that effect. I suggest they also get a grip on unreferenced articles, which seems to be a problem. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:32, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

::::Yes, there are large number of basketball editing accounts going back to 2011. Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Dereks1x/Archive#01_December_2011 is where the basketball editor appears. A couple of their accounts had already been blocked at that point and more were blocked on 1 December, based on DUCK. Check Users have since been run to link accounts used by the basketball editor. There doesn't appear to have ever been a CU done to link the basketball editor to (politics editor) Dereks1x. My concern here is that an IP editor who was making many useful contributions to plant articles was blocked after making a few edits to college basketball articles. It seems likely that any IP who edits college basketball articles runs the risk of being blocked as a sock (and IPs do a lot of work keeping sports articles up-to-date; e.g. by adding scores of recent games). It seems like it would save a lot of trouble if the basketball editor (first editing as variants of Lewis...) could be allowed to edit from a single account, with edits from that account scrutinized, rather than regularly popping up under entirely new user names. I'm pretty convinced that Lewis... is not the same person as Dereks1x (although Lewis... clearly has used MANY accounts, and makes some problematic edits). Plantdrew (talk) 18:00, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

::::Thanks for the ping, {{u|zzuuzz}}. I discussed this with {{u|Reaper Eternal}} at the time. Our conclusion was that while at some point in the history two masters might have been given one name, there was block evasion going on. Speaking for myself, I’m convinced that these accounts were the sockmaster that has become known as Dereks1x. Whether or not they are the original master is largely academic at this point. They are linked to a years long history of socks both through the CU log and behaviour. Our sanctions are against people, not silly names, so that there’s a possibility we’re giving two different masters one name doesn’t change the fact that these accounts are socks, and that the CU evidence is convincing on that. I personally am not in favour of unblocking a disruptive sockmaster because a clerk 8 years ago gave the person the wrong name. Doesn’t change the problem. :::::I take the view that there's sockpuppeting, and then there's abusive sockpuppeting. I haven't looked very closely at how this happened (and this would be important), but I can see how a mixup might have taken place. So, from a policy perspective, this basketball editor is either Dereks1x or they are not. I think this is an important detail. Assuming they are not, they are still banned (WP:3X). The well-trodden path to seeking an unban would to a) stick to WP:OFFER, b) present a case to the community for an unban, and c) clarify the details about Dereks1x. There is a chance - only a chance - that the six months mentioned in the standard offer can be shortened, however they are going to need to stick to one account, even if it's blocked, and they are also going to need to address the referencing issues. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:36, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

New account created shortly after the latest block, immediately started editing WP:CBBALL articles, in particular articles that their socks have edited in the past such as 2019–20 UConn Huskies women's basketball team, 2019–20 Stanford Cardinal men's basketball team, and 2019–20 South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball team. Requesting CU to confirm as well as find sleepers. Pinging {{u|Zzuuzz}} and {{u|TonyBallioni}} as they seem to have experience with this individual. Kb03 (talk) 04:05, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Edit: Additional evidence can be found at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=&user=&page=2019–20+California+Golden+Bears+men%27s+basketball+team this log]. User recreated an article that was G5'd as made by a sock of Dereks1x. Kb03 (talk) 18:59, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

  • {{endorse}} fwiw, although you already pinged two checkusers with more experience with this case. This account was created three days after the last batch were blocked and is editing in the same topic: can't say based on behaviour but worth a check. • Confirmed to other recent socks, with no obvious sleepers (regarding tags please see the recently archived discussion about whether this is actually Dereks1x). -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:15, 11 October 2019 (UTC)

Created shortly after the last sockpuppet account was blocked. Username contains 206, the first part of the IP address used by this sockpuppeteer. Immediately hits many of the same articles, such as 2019–20 NC State Wolfpack men's basketball team, created by previously blocked sock, 2019–20 Washington State Cougars men's basketball team targeted by {{np|LadyMetcalf90}}, a previously blocked sock, 2019–20 Boston College Eagles men's basketball team which was created by {{np|SpaceCity713}}, a previously blocked sock, and then deleted. User has about 65 edits, all in the same general subject area as all the previous socks, all in the past four days. Yamla (talk) 19:34, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

New account immediately started editing articles that were edited under the last socks, they also recreated 2019–20 West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team which was deleted in a G5. Requesting CU to find sleepers as this user has a history of them as well as to confirm definitively. Kb03 (talk) 14:18, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

  • I am fairly confident that this is {{unrelated}}. ST47 (talk) 14:48, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

::Apart from constructing a similar-looking table, there's not enough similarity between the content in the revision that the blocked sock used before the article was deleted, and the content that's in the revision that the accused sock puppet account added when creating the article. I don't see enough behavioral evidence to assert that action is justified here. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:36, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Hearing some quacking on this. Recently blocked socks {{user links|Lewisthecreator1991}} and {{user links|Seahawks206}} both created pages of the naming pattern "{{tq|2019–20 TEAM FUBAR men's basketball team }}". PierceCounty253 has done the same (Special:Log/PierceCounty253).

PierceCounty253 was created shortly after Seahawks206 was blocked.

Like the previous socks ([https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2019%E2%80%9320_Clemson_Tigers_men%27s_basketball_team&diff=prev&oldid=921772687], [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2019%E2%80%9320_Oregon_Ducks_men%27s_basketball_team&diff=prev&oldid=920433384]), PierceCounty253 is created large tables of game schedules (e.g., [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2019%E2%80%9320_Portland_Pilots_men%27s_basketball_team&diff=prev&oldid=924831915]).

Given that this sockmaster continues to make multiple sockpuppets, I am asking for a CU to confirm the account's connection and to look for sleepers. EvergreenFir (talk) 17:36, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

:{{Re|Ivanvector}} Bluejay has edits exclusively on sports pages and mainly on {{Tq|YEAR City FUBAR season}} articles. I think that's a quack. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:40, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

::You're not wrong, and there's also a username similarity (e.g. with {{noping|Seahawks206}}), but Bluejay14 edits football articles, not basketball articles. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:58, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

:::{{Re|Ivanvector}} Good catch! I didn't see that (which speaks to my lack of sports knowledge). I still think it's more likely than not a sock, but wonder what others have to say. EvergreenFir (talk) 20:08, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
