First off, similarity in name. Both accounts have a penchant for creating articles about non-notable [https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/pages/index.php?name=Samuelpoginavera&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia&namespace=0&redirects=noredirects BeeGees] [https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/pages/index.php?name=PogiJmon&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia&namespace=0&redirects=noredirects songs] and other non-notable artists/songs. Master account went quiet about 2 weeks before the sock started creating similar articles. Master account is now back !voting on the related AFD's. ES&L 17:24, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

IP 121.54.13.51 in the Philippines has been connected to PogiJmon, stated explicitly in October 2011 by {{u|Arjayay}} here. As seen in [//tools.wmflabs.org/ptools/intertwined.php?project=enwiki&user1=Rhenier+Brizuela&user2=121.54.13.51 this intertwined contribution tool], IP 121.54.13.51 and Rhenier Brizuela were interested in the same articles, primarily ones about the Bee Gees musical group.

IP 121.54.13.51 had been editing Bee Gees articles through 5 July 2014, then the Rhenier Brizuela was started the next day. On 7 July, Rhenier Brizuela was editing the Bee Gees biography when IP 121.54.13.51 dropped in with one edit, having the appearance of Rhenier Brizuela accidentally getting logged out.[//tools.wmflabs.org/ptools/intertwined.php?project=enwiki&user1=Rhenier+Brizuela&user2=121.54.13.51] The same thing happened the next day but then apparently Rhenier Brizuela mastered the problem of staying logged in.

Right before the Rhenier Brizuela account was registered, IP 121.54.13.51 performed [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=615708025&oldid=615677301 this series of edits], adding text which was a too-close paraphrasing of a book by Andrew Môn Hughes. IP text in red, original author in green:

  • {{!xt|Robin rang him in Spain where he was on holiday and they sat down and talked and Robin said "Let's do it again."}}
  • {{xt|"Robin rang me in Spain where I was on holiday," he recalled... "When I got back... Robin came to see me... and we sat down and we talked and he said, 'Let's do it again,'...}}[//books.google.com/books?id=KugbDQHX0R8C&pg=PT582&dq=robin+rang+him+in+spain+where+he+was+on+holiday&hl=en&sa=X&ei=HDL9VNCxN4b7oQTA34LYCA&ved=0CCoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=robin%20rang%20him%20in%20spain%20where%20he%20was%20on%20holiday&f=false]

The [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=615829629&oldid=615708025 first edit that Rhenier Brizuela made to the same article on the next day] was the addition of more text copied too closely from the same book by Andrew Môn Hughes. Rhenier Brizuela's text in red is compared to the original book text in green:

  • {{!xt|...a riot broke out in the audience when, during the third last number, some young girls attempted to go up on stage while a roadie snatched one girl back and roughly threw her from the stage, injuring her as she landed on her back while the crowd raged but seemed to calm down when Maurice told them to shut up.}}

This case is too old for checkuser. Binksternet (talk) 05:58, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

More background to connect the dots: PogiJmon and his socks were known for relying too much on email engineer Joseph Brennan's "Gibb Songs" pages hosted at Columbia University where Brennan works. For instance, PogiJmon [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=How_Old_Are_You%3F_%28album%29&diff=503309663&oldid=494027346 posted this copyright violation] in July 2012, copying and pasting the text from Brennan [http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/beegees/82.html "Gibb Songs" 1982]. Now-blocked sock Sam navera also copied and pasted text from Brennan to the same article on 22 September 2012, but it was later revdeled so I cannot read it.[//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=How_Old_Are_You%3F_%28album%29&offset=&limit=100&action=history] In November 2012, both {{u|Syzygy}} and {{u|Ferdinandhudson}} commented on the copyright problems at Talk:How Old Are You? (album)#Massive copyright issues. A few months later, blocked sock Sam navera [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=How_Old_Are_You%3F_%28album%29&diff=542992499&oldid=522430923 re-posted the copyrighted text], taken from Brennan.

  • The crux of this case is that PogiJmon is 121.54.13.51, and 121.54.13.51 is Rhenier Brizuela. The first part, connecting the IP to PogiJmon, is covered two ways, the first by looking at [//tools.wmflabs.org/ptools/intertwined.php?project=enwiki&user1=PogiJmon&user2=121.54.13.51 this intertwined contribution tool] to see such smoking guns as the sequence on 27 May 2012 that shows PogiJmon [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Loner_(album)&diff=prev&oldid=494567927 working on a Maurice Gibb album] then getting logged out a few minutes later for one edit as the IP [//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Maurice_Gibb&diff=prev&oldid=494568189 adding a link to that album in the Maurice Gibb biography], then logging back in [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Maurice_Gibb&diff=prev&oldid=494570062 to continue working on the same biography by adding another link to the same album], all within minutes. The other way to connect PogiJmon to the IP is by noting the contemporary comments of other involved editors such as Arjayay at User_talk:121.54.13.51#Released who says "I note you are now editing as an IP rather than User:PogiJmon."

:Similar connections can be seen between the IP and the two previously identified and blocked socks, [https://tools.wmflabs.org/ptools/intertwined.php?project=enwiki&user1=Sam+navera&user2=121.54.13.51 Sam navera (see 14 January editing Love So Right)], and [https://tools.wmflabs.org/ptools/intertwined.php?project=enwiki&user1=Samuelpoginavera&user2=121.54.13.51 Samuelpoginavera (see 26 December editing the album Spicks and Specks)].

  • To show that 121.54.13.51 is Rhenier Brizuela, the main argument is the sequencing, that Rhenier Brizuela immediately followed 121.54.13.51 to the Bee Gees article (sequence[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Barry_Gibb&diff=prev&oldid=615709220][https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=615829629]) and then suddenly edited logged out a couple of times (sequence 1: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=615962854][https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=616070142], sequence 2: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=616092134][https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=616372603].)

:There are also similarities in editing style. Both the IP and Rhenier Brizuela have drawn from Brennan's "Gibb Songs" website. Editing from the Philippines, the person behind the accounts has gradually improved their English language skills over 3.5 years, starting with copying and pasting text from sources, to error-filled summaries of published work, to fair summaries with some errors. All of these user accounts demonstrate a marked reluctance to interact with other editors. PogiJmon never once discussed an issue on an article talk or user talk page, nor did the IP, and neither has Rhenier Brizuela, not even their own talk page. (It's true PogiJmon has commented at AfDs of his articles.) PogiJmon and the IP never communicated their own thoughts in an edit summary, while Rhenier Brizuela rarely uses edit summaries, testing the waters with [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bee_Gees&diff=prev&oldid=615935037 "I updated this article"] to summarize his fifth edit.

:Note to Bbb23: The Brennan website apparently requires 'http' at the head of the URL rather than 'https'. Instead of fixing the problem, I have removed the argument which was indeed confused. Binksternet (talk) 07:48, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

{{clerk-note}} {{ping|Binksternet}} Given how complicated this all is for me to wade through, you did an admirable job. I especially like the use of colors. However, I still need some help "connecting the dots", as you aptly put it. First, [https://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/beegees/82.html this diff] to I assume Brennan's website doesn't work. Second, in your second section where you start comparing Rhenier to the master, could you please quote the copyrighted text and the source that makes it a copyright violation. Some of the edits for which you have diffs are very long, and it's not always easy for me to pick out which part of the edit is problematic. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:53, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

:I've reviewed the restructuring of Binksternet's evidence. I've also done a little looking on my own, which turned up (1) Rhenier used edit summaries more than once and in perfectly good English, and although almost none of the confirmed socks or the master used edit summaries ever, I finally found some good-English edit summaries by Sam Navera; and (2) all of the previous socks have created new articles about songs, and Rhenier is no exception, also uploading files (common to other socks) and creating new categories (also common). I've therefore concluded that it's more likely than not that Rhenier is a sock puppet and indeffed and tagged the account accordingly.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:18, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

::{{Ping|Bbb23}} Any thoughts on how you want to handle the master account? (Note that in Jan 2014 the account was blocked for 3 days for sockpuppetry.) Mike VTalk 16:35, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

:::{{reply|Mike V}} I did think about it but probably should have commented. The account hasn't been used in over a year, so I decided that blocking an abandoned account was pointless. However, feel free to block if you wish.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:56, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
