I noticed this issue where it was originally posted at WP:AIV, and thought I'd come here to comment. Looking at the contribs, it appears obvious that they're the same user. However, it doesn't appear to be malicious. The Johnwest1 account stopped editing on 20 March, and Johnwest5 started on 30 March. What seems likely to me is that the user probably forgot his/her password, and created a new account. The edits don't appear to be disruptive in any way. In any case, these accounts don't appear to be breaking policy; they're not backing eachother up in a dispute, not being disruptive, nor are they being used to circumvent a block. (saw it on ANI) I have the same problem on cawiki with [http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuari:Enric_Naval Enric_Naval] and [http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Especial:Contribucions/Enric_naval and Enric_naval] (capital N), notice how I accidentally make edits on 24 January 2008 on the same pages as my "main" account, supporting its statements (I just noticed it, and I guess that nobody noticed either). There's no sockpuppetry - it is clearly the same user, just with two different accounts. As the accounts don't overlap, there's no breach of any policy (as far as I can see) - no block evasion, goodhand / badhanding, and the like. I'm marking this as closed and archiving accordingly - I've been trying to get the backlog on this page down all week, so don't see any merit in leaving this one around any longer. _GB^T/C 13:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
