;Evidence

I highly suspect PalaceGuard008 to be a sockpuppet of Sumple based on the following facts:

1. Both users edit the China page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:China Talk:China]

2. Both insisted Middle Kingdom is the right translation of Zhongguo (China) and diminish scholars' comments.

3. Both users reside in Sydney based on users' pages

4. The other IP sockpuppet 211.30.236.143 was also originated from Sydney.

Pending results of: Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Peter_zhou. Also note this SSP was filed by a brand new account, an obvious sock of someone.RlevseTalk 12:56, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

: No, you're wrong, I'm not a sock of anyone, and I'm here reporting suspected sock puppets with evidence. __Feipleo 06:47, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I'd be shocked if there was any relation between PalaceGuard and Sumple. I've disagreed with both editors on occasion, but IMHO, both have been proven to be honorable, reasonable, and valuable editors. I'm confident this is just a report filed by a sock in retaliation for the puppeteer getting banned.  Folic_Acid | talk  13:22, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

::Me too. Legit brand new users don't even know what socks and SSP are. RlevseTalk 13:29, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not going to respond to this "user", except to say that by this logic, I'm also the same user as User:Folic Acid, User:Heimstern, User:Cowman109, User:Niohe and User:AQu01rius. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 13:34, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

::Well, if you are the same user as me, don't forget to get some beer on the way home from work. I think we're out. (and yes, I refer to myself in the first person plural for some reason). :)  Folic_Acid | talk  13:40, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

:::Only contributions by reporting editor are this SSP case? I definitely agree with Rlevse here, legit brand new users don't know what socks or SSP are. I also think this is a case of a puppeteer looking to disrupt Wikipedia by reporting those who got them blocked for socking in the first place. Bmg916Speak 14:16, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Comment: I know both Sumple and PalaceGuard008 personally. They are not the same person, although they have similar interests. Even if you believe they are the same person, who cares? Sumple is not active any more (see his user page) - he left the project in disgust by vandals, which is unfortunate. enochlau (talk) 15:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Some people are lying here. The strongest evidence is the contribution distribution made by both Sumple and PalaceGuard008, they match very closely: __Feipleo 06:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

:: Okay, you've officially pissed me off, JackyAustine or Peter zhou whatever your real name is. First you come and vandalise my user page, now you are accusing me of being a sockpuppeteer.

:: And what are the sockpuppets that I allegedly own? First, a user account that stopped editing 6 months ago, and, according to the talk page, has left the project. Even if that was me, it would not be a sockpuppet: a sockpuppet is where someone operates two or more accounts at the same time.

:: Second, an IP address that made one edit. Again, even if that was me, which it is not, it is not a sockpuppet to make one edit while not logged in.

:: And what are the grounds on which you base your accusations? That both of these "accounts" (one of them is an IP address) are, according to you, based in Sydney. Okay, brilliant. Do you know how many people live in Sydney? 5 million.

:: Anyone who has a wikipedia account out of those 5 million people, according to you, is me. And your stupid bar graph really shows something doesn't it?

:: Do you know what it shows? It shows that people who (according to you) live in the same geographical location have similar life pattersn - they get up in the morning and go to sleep at night!!

:: Wow, that's just like, so unfathomable - anyone who does that must be the same person, eh?

:: Well you know what, I'm glad Wikipedia is blocked in China. Because, according to your logic, every single editor who lives in, say, Beijing, with a population of 18 million, is the same person provided they oppose you?

:: Plus, I edit from both Sydney (UTC + 10) and London (UTC + 0) - and the two graphs you supply clearly shows that difference.

:: As I said, your logic is just stupid. Now, if you will excuse me, I should go and get those beers for Folic Acid, who is me as well, according to your logic. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 07:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Question for the powers that be: Is it possible to close this SSP as a clearly bad faith effort to annoy and harass a valuable editor? It seems obvious that this was started by an obvious sockpuppet of User:JackyAustine with whom PalaceGuard has had repeated run-ins, and who has repeatedly vandalized PalaceGuard's user page. It seems a transparent attempt to get PalaceGuard in trouble, and, IMHO, should be quickly dismissed as a spiteful and harassing attempt to game the system.  Folic_Acid | talk  12:59, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Some people are lying and denying the facts. Based on the recent activities of the following IPs:

{{user5|1=211.30.169.223}}

--> 03:17, 25 October 2007 (hist) (diff) User:PalaceGuard008‎ (→About me)

{{user5|1=220.239.173.116}}

--> 23:16, 14 November 2007 (hist) (diff) Talk:China‎ (→Use whatever terminology you like, it's more about context - refactor)

They all suggest these sockpuppet accounts were originated from one place:

inetnum: 211.28.0.0 - 211.31.255.255

netname: OPTUSINTERNET-AU

descr: OPTUS INTERNET - RETAIL

descr: INTERNET SERVICES

descr: Chatswood, Sydney

country: AU

inetnum: 220.236.0.0 - 220.239.255.255

netname: OPTUSINTERNET-AU

descr: OPTUS INTERNET - RETAIL

descr: INTERNET SERVICES

descr: Chatswood, Sydney

country: AU

Adding to that, both Sumple and PalaceGuard008 have the same set of interests/contributions. With this much conclusive evidence, no one will believe PalaceGuard008 /211.30.169.223 /220.239.173.116 / 211.30.236.143 are not sockpuppets of Sumple. Telling lies and violating Wikipedia policies are not honorable, and can hurt other Wikipedia users.

;Conclusions

I'm convinced this is a bad faith SSP case submitted by a sock of JackyAustine. I blocking and tagging the submitter as such. RlevseTalk 03:20, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
