Merge to a single template, {{tl|AFLW}}, which uses a simple switch statement. There is zero reason to have a dozen templates when one is just as easy to use, and easier to maintain. Just creates a whole lot of work, especially if applied project-wide to other similar templates as well, and I don't understand how one template would necessarily be "easier to maintain" when the existing templates are just as easy to edit. Usually when a template should not be used in cs1|2 templates, we add {{tlx|COinS safe|n}} to the offending template's documentation. In this case, {{tld|COinS safe|n}} is not appropriate so some other template must used or newly created. As these templates do not have any documentation (shame, shame, shame) that too will needs be created for nineteen more-or-less templates. One template, one documentation page, one don't-use-this-template-in-citations notice. Need another AFLW xxx link? Don't create a new template, add the wikilink to {{tlx|AFLW}}, plus a minimal amount of associated documentation, and you're done.

Which means that to have a single template will need something like {{template|AFLW team}} and then we'll also need time to turn over everything on the project, also editors will have to relearn this, and even after that it'll still be less efficient as it's twice the length. I'm in favour of Jonesey95's proposed merged template for the reasons [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2024_September_13&diff=prev&oldid=1245749472 stated here], but opening a third parallel discussion here and starting it with a different premise/justification to the other two is triplicating the effort we need to get to a consensus. :It's been nearly two weeks since the other threads were closed... could we please have a resolution, someone? In any case, {{tl|AFLW BL}}, {{tl|AFLW Kan}} and (not listed) {{tl|AFLW Nor}} should be deleted, as these are/were redirects that now don't have any transclusions, but I'm still strongly advocating for the rest to be kept and left alone/to just let us WP:AFL editors continue to use them the way we have been (except in cs1|2 templates as mentioned above, which only a couple of us do and we'll try to clean up as much as possible), and for the same approach to apply to other similar templates across the project. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 16:34, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
