Amusement park articles should be titled by the subject's common name, which in many cases will be the subject's official name. If there is a shortened version of the name or other alternative names, create a redirect page for each one that points to the article (e.g. USH redirects to Universal Studios Hollywood where the main article exists). If the need for disambiguation arises, look for a natural disambiguation option over a parenthetical option (e.g. Luna Park exists so articles could be located at Luna Park Sydney or Luna Park, Melbourne).

For roller coasters, searching the [http://www.rcdb.com Roller Coaster Database] may assist in properly titling the article and determining if there are others with similar names. In addition to the WP:Article titles policy, the following guidelines may also help:

• If one coaster of that name is found, and the name is unambiguous on Wikipedia → Title should simply be "Coaster name"

::Example: Kingda Ka

• If one coaster of that name is found, and the name is ambiguous on Wikipedia → Title should be "Coaster name (roller coaster)".

::Example: Lightning Rod (roller coaster).

• If multiple distinct coasters of that name are found → Title should be "Coaster Name (Park Name)"

::Example: Corkscrew (Cedar Point). Also, it may be necessary to create a disambiguation page (see below).

• If multiple coasters of that name are found, but they are all considered "clones" of one another → Write one article covering all installations of that coaster.

::Example: Batman: The Ride

The same guidelines should be followed for all other attractions and amusement park-related articles. When shortened and alternate versions of the article titles are likely to be searched, remember to create redirects to the extended name (e.g. Waterworld show redirects to Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular). Adding relevant redirects assists Wikipedia visitors attempting to locate articles using the site's search box.

Please refer to WP:DISAMBIG regarding the need for and creation of disambiguation pages. When an ambiguity exists among multiple articles that share the same title, a disambiguation page assists a reader searching that topic to quickly find the information they're looking for (e.g. Mercury).

When a disambiguation page already exists for a topic involving an amusement park-related article that you created, simply add the article title as a new entry. Typically this is done under the "Other uses" category on the disambiguation page (e.g. Joker), but in some situations where many installations exist, there may be a "Roller coasters" category as seen at Corkscrew (disambiguation).

Occasionally, hatnotes are preferred over disambiguation pages (see WP:MULTIDABS and WP:DLINKS), particularly when there are only two or three possible destinations for a given topic name. An example of this can be seen at Valravn.

The following are suggested layout structures for the various types of articles within the scope of WikiProject Amusement Parks. Replace the phrases utilizing greater than and less than symbols (<, >) with the appropriate value. These are basic layout suggestions and should not necessarily be copied verbatim. Some articles will have sections not mentioned here, and others will use different names for section headers.

A typical layout should include:

• An infobox accompanied by a picture that best shows what the coaster has to offer (usually the first drop). Ideally, the picture should show a train.
• A lead section that begins with:

:* Include former and alternative names in parenthesis. For complex situations, or to reduce clutter, consider using an {{t|efn}} footnote instead or simply rely on the infobox.

:Other significant information (such as manufacturer, opening date, records, etc.) should also be included in the lead.

• History: information about planning, development, announcement, construction, opening (as well as brief mention of initial records held upon opening), and other relevant details.
• Ride experience: a concise description detailing the roller coaster's queue area, layout, and elements.
• Characteristics: a section describing the manufacturer, manufacturing process, track, and trains. Typically focuses on technical details. The "Ride experience" may be placed here instead of a dedicated section if the layout is simple.
• Records: Any significant milestones/records achieved at opening, as well as records that continue to be held. If very brief, consider merging into History section.
• Reception and awards: contains reviews by professional critics, writers, or expert enthusiasts (that pass WP:SPS requirements). May also contain general public reaction in strong, reliable sources. Awards, such as Golden Ticket Awards rankings (by year) from Amusement Today or commemorative plaques issued by organizations such as ACE.

:*A Legacy subsection may be added for coasters that have had (and continue to have) a significant historical impact on the industry.

• Incidents: a section detailing significant accidents or incidents. If only one incident exists, consider merging into History section.
• References: a list of references.
• External links: a bullet list of the roller coaster's official webpage.
• Templates: links to all the other roller coasters in the park are listed alphabetically.
