Proposal to re-organise categories relating to Australian Parliaments

In December 2005 there was a brief discussion at WP:AWNB regarding sorting out categories relating to the various Parliaments in Australia. (See Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board/Archive 15#MHR Category). It was agreed that these categories are currently messy and need to be sorted out.

Since then Ambi, Snottygobble and Adz have discussed the problem at length and formulated a proposal to overhaul and clean up the current categories.

=Objectives and changes=

The proposed new structure (see below) would a) provide greater clarity to the meanings of the categories and the articles they contain and b) allow the categories and sub categories to fit into the category structure for international legislative categories of :Category:Legislatures :Category:National legislatures and :Category:Legislatures of subnational entities.

Under the proposal:

articles containing historical lists of Members of the Federal Parliament would be moved from :Category:Australian parliaments to :Category:Members of the Parliament of Australia by term
articles containing historical lists of Members of State Parliaments would move from :Category:(State) parliaments to :Category:Members of the Parliament of (State) by term
sub categories will be created for the federal Parliament and the State and territory Parliaments (with subcategory for each State and Territory) to a) enable these to be slotted into the overarching international categories and b) provide categories for articles dealing with aspects of these Parliaments. Articles relating to the Parliament of a state do not currently sit in the category relating to that State Parliament (e.g. :Category:Victorian parliaments or :Category:New South Wales parliaments).
