:Periodic Table Graphics (PTG) is a taskforce of Wikipedia:WikiProject Elements (talk).

:The taskforce aims to improve graphic and presentational aspects of the periodic table. It follows and shows scientific content.

:By theme (topic), like categories, blocks, or by editorial form (like 18- or 32-column)

Goals

Goals of the taskforce are to improve graphic presentation of the periodic table. This includes

::Present scientific information appropriately and usefully. Considering Wikipedia is an encyclopedia.

::Apply WP:ACCESSABILITY ('A11Y') guidelines, aims and principles.

::Improve explanations, descriptions etc.

;State of Matter (SOM, Jan 2021)

  • Current 2020 SoM coloring (=use font colors) has issues.

:As of 2021-01-23, an Emergency Edit has been made to make SoM-fontcolors into black all. W3C Contrast checking failed too often (5/18 existing combinations!)

: A new presentation form (like icons not colors) is considered.

  • Could be redesigned to be more useful (like using larger cells).

  • As of Jan 2021, this Taskforce PTG was buzy to find better category-colors.

:Current live colorset is "2020" (as of 31 Dec 2020), see Wikipedia:WikiProject Elements/PTG/categories/2020 and {{tl|Periodic table}}.

Conventions

  • In PTG, hex color triplets are shown in lowercase: {{mono|3af8ee}}.
  • "Chemical categorisation" explicitly refers to the science. For example, the "2020 categorisation" scientifically re-introduced "Halogens" category. After this, the topic "Colors of categories" will follow.
  • Category names are not relevant. For example, former PTM Post-transition metals is in 2020: OM Other Metals. Does not effect color design.

:Also, exact category memberlist not very important. Except maybe when checking for neigbours (bordering).
