= Seventeen of thirty-two remaining contestants advance, with Cas Liber again leading the round =

The third round of the WikiCup competition has finished in a flurry of last-minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as five featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall; this last figure exceeds the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people took part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

He also pulled in points on DYK and GAR, with six and thirteen respectively.

File:Arlington, Washington - Olympic Avenue 01.jpg|Whilst Arlington, Washington was SounderBruce's ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/SounderBruce|787988679|submissions}}) only FA, he had five GA's and eight DYK's propelling him to second.

File:Austro-Hungarian torpedo boat 81T NH 87683.tif| The 250t-class torpedo boat was one of two FAs that pushed File:Flag of South Australia.svg Peacemaker67 ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Peacemaker67|787862285|submissions}}) to third place.

File:Barbra Streisand - 1966.jpg|Despite having no FAs in round three, File:Flag of Minnesota.svg Carbrera ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Carbrera|787999390|submissions}}), with two Barbra Streisand related, and eight other GAs, as well as one FL was pushed into fourth place.

File:Cyclone Ada satellite 1970-01-17.png|Cyclone Ada was one of File:Flag of Key West, Florida.svg Juliancolton's ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Juliancolton|787366788|submissions}}) two FA's, (and their only GA) that allowed them to finish in fifth place.

File:Rocky Romero 2015.JPG|Rocky Romero was one of three GA's for File:Flag of Denmark.svg MPJ-DK ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/MPJ-DK|787297615|submissions}}) that helped them greatly. However, what really sealed the deal on their sixth place finish was ten points for each one of the twenty-six articles in a featured topic.

File:Rom 1600.png|Read-Only Memory (publisher) was one of File:BlackFlag.svg Czar's ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Czar|787508093|submissions}}) two GA's. An additional FA catapulted Czar from near the bottom to seventh place.

File:Anas platyrhynchos male female quadrat.jpg|The mallard was one of four GA's that allowed File:Flag of India.svg Adityavagarwal ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Adityavagarwal|787988726|submissions}}) to snag eighth place.

File:Miriam makeba 01.jpg|Miriam Makeba was one of File:Flag of the United Nations.svg Vanamonde's ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Vanamonde93|787807633|submissions}}) four GA's. In addition, they had seven DYK's, three ITN, and four GARs.

File:Pagoda view.jpg|With Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery being one of two GA's, and having two FLs, and three DYKs, File:Flag of Canada.svg Bloom6132 ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Bloom6132|788068608|submissions}}) took eleventh place quite smoothly.

File:18gatech.jpg|1918 Georgia Tech Golden Tornado football team was one of two GARs that, along with eight GAs, left File:Flag of the United States.svg BU Rob13 ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/BU Rob13|788016307|submissions}}) in twelfth place.

File:Ali Larter with Heroes-Poster.jpg|Clear Rivers was the GA that, along with a FA allowed File:Flag of Germany.svg PanagiotisZois ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/PanagiotisZois|787438304|submissions}}) to come in thirteenth.

File:Debby 02 sept 1988 2138.jpg|Hurricane Debby (1988) was one of the seven GA's that File:Flag of Florida.svg 12george1 ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/12george1|787988701|submissions}}) received. Those largely kept them ahead of a lot of the pack, to finish in fourteenth place.

File:Clara1981091912GMS1IR.jpg|Typhoon Clara, and four other GA's, as well as eight DYKs and nine GARs put File:Flag of Greece.svg Yellow Evan ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Yellow Evan|788006727|submissions}}) in fifteenth place.

File:Flag of Switzerland.svg|A single FA for Swiss explorer and writer Isabelle Eberhardt, along with two GARs, allowed File:Flag of Australia.svg Freikorp ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Freikorp|787924326|submissions}}) to narrowly make the next round, in fact tying for sixteenth place.

File:Seal of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.svg| Getting the Philadelphia municipal election, 1951 to featured status, and having two GAs is largely the reason that File:Flag of Pennsylvania.svg Coemgenus ({{oldid|Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2017/Submissions/Coemgenus|787146875|submissions}}) managed to progress to the next round, tying for sixteenth place.
