I'm chilean and this animal really exists. It's common in maize plantations areas, from where it takes it's name. Siripi it's a "chicha" (a kind of wine) from the bolivian highlands and Cuipi it's a derivation of the latin word cupio that means "to wish".
Many people doubt about it's existence because of the siripiscuipi's night habits and little scientific documentation.
