...We had to walk uphill 20 miles in the snow...

...In my day, one simply had to show interest in helping the project, not make any glaring mistakes, and be a generally good fellow. It certainly confuses me to see people making remarks asking to see another 9 months. The guy wants to help, he doesn't appear to be a ponce. Where is the big deal here? :The guy wants to help, but there are others out there who want to collect hats or have a feeling of power. If we have a culture where all it takes to get the tools is a few thousand reversions of vandalism and uw-template warnings, then the bad eggs can do that just as easily as the good eggs. When Wikipedia was young, adminship may not have been a big deal; now it's seen by many as big kudos, and many immature types want that. It's not so much the months or the edit count, but a demonstrated broad understanding. --Stfg (talk) 09:21, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

::Ditto, a while back, Jimbo said that editors in good standing should be made admins, because it is not a big deal. Ginsuloft's antivandalism work would be useful at AIV, although this RfA may not succeed.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 10:36, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

::: The bulk of anti-vandalism work doesn't get as far as AIV, so admin tools aren't needed and Ginsuloft's efforts are much appreciated.

::: Mind you, as some editors and admins frequently point out, anti-vandalism edits "don't count" and "aren't really contributing" to the encyclopedia (in the way that the ANI circle jerk is?), which just shows what sort of respect the anti-vandal people get.
