Evidence of inappropriate copying

The following is intended as supporting material for my claim that much of the content Ryan has contributed is directly copied from outside sources without adequate attribution. Parts of this originally appeared as part of my oppose vote, but I decided to move it here given space and formating considerations. Dragons flight 08:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Ryanpostlethwaite at Harold Gaba: "From 1992 through 1997, he served as CEO and a director of Act III Theatres, Inc., and from 1992 through 1996 as CEO and a director of Act III Broadcasting, Inc. Also, since November 2005, Mr. Gaba has served as co-chairman of Village RoadShow Pictures, a motion picture production company. He has been Chairman of the Board of Concord Records since September 1999"

  • Ryanpostlewaite at British Pharmacological Society: "The society was founded in 1931 in Oxford by a group of 20 pharmacologists ... The society met annually until 1939 ... Associate Membership of the Society, for Pharmacologists who live overseas, was introduced in 1958 and by 1972 there were over 130 members of this type. However, with increasing numbers of Ordinary Members working overseas, the distinction between two groups became less clear and in 1973 the Society combined them into one class of Ordinary Membership. By December 1986 the number of members had reached 2,000 and in 1994, the company became a limited company by guarantee. Student membership to the society was introduced in 1996."

I think it's a little unfair to claim that "much of the content Ryan has contributed" is copied. He's made a lot of contributions and you've only provided three examples here. - Alison 12:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

: Except he hasn't. Nearly all his mainspace contributions are vandalism reverts or minor formatting issues. These represent a large fraction of the actual content he's created. Dragons flight 15:13, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

:Plagiarism is serious no matter how many times it has happened. Sarah 19:14, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

::Oh, I agree. My concern was around the word "much" as it tends to overshadow his edits, the vast majority of which seem just fine - Alison 19:39, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

::I have given Harold Gaba, Roger Royle, and Anne Keothavong minor rewrites for now. More work should be done. IrishGuy talk 19:50, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Comment This is a very legitamate concern that Dragons flight has raised, I am not going to change anything in the articles that he has quoted at present, it is only fair that users who wish to contribute to this Rfa can fully see the concerns without me trying to cover them up. As soon as this is finished, I will fully address the issue on all the articles RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 15:23, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Actually, if you could fix them and then link here to the older revisions, that might indicate that you've understood what Dragons flight is talking about. I don't think anyone would consider it an attempt at a cover-up.Chick Bowen 02:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Comment on question 6

Although Nichalp is completely correct (the copyright status of the original image can be found at: [http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/disclaim.html]), I would suspect that many admins would have made the same mistake as Ryan. He has said that he doesn't have any intention of working on image copyright problems and I am convinced his contributions in other areas would make him a valuable addition to the admin team. WjBscribe 19:09, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

:I don't suppose "contributions in other areas" would include writing the occasional article? I do not feel I can trust him to do that much. — CharlotteWebb 23:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
