Wizardry

Will one of you wizards kindly respond to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Embedding_a_video this] question on THQ, that has gone unanswered? TimothyJosephWood 19:59, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Unable to jump using the playback bar in videos

Regardless of which computer, internet browser or Wikipedia page I use, I can't jump in media files using the playback bar (or by any other means).

Take for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Curiosity%27s_Seven_Minutes_of_Terror.ogv

I may want to jump to see only the touchdown. Also, I may miss what he is saying for a second and want to go back, but it's not working.

This error is very frustrating. I've made an entry at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T188701, and i hope it will be fixed soon. Mikael Häggström (talk) 07:49, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Video with non-English Audio

Hi! Is there a PAG for or against including videos which are only useful with the accompanying audio which happens to be non-English? My own instinct is that such videos should not be included at all. Usedtobecool ☎️ 04:31, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Embedded video insist downloading rather than playback (on iOS mobile)

{{hatnote|This discussion is archived from Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 187. An identical archive could also be seen in Help talk:Creation and usage of media files}}

File:8.02x - Lect 11 - Magnetic Fields, Lorentz Force, Torques, Electric Motors (DC).webm video. iPhone refuses playback, while Android insists to play from the beginning, ignoring the command to play from 41'

File:Physicsworks.ogv video. iPhone refuses playback, while Android plays perfectly from 1:52, as instructed|start=1:52

]]

On iOS mobile device (Safari and Chrome), while playing Webm and ogv embedded in an Wikipedia article, it directs users to download the file rather than a simple playback (which is ridiculous for a >100Mb video). On Android (Chrome), while ogv works perfectly, Webm could only be played from the beginning, ignoring the time tag commands (Note: most users specify a starting time of the video so that it corresponds to relevant content to the article). The above issues does not happen on desktop computers. Is there a fix? -- love.wh 04:23, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

:Try the same thing on :testwiki:, especially the playback part. There is an different audio/video player there (video.js, instead of Kaltura here). There is an ogv file at :testwiki:Equivalence_principle, for example.--Snaevar (talk) 17:31, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

:Also, are you using the mobile app or the mobile website to access these? (If both, is it the same experience?) — xaosflux Talk 17:38, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

::For me, the sample Webm played from 41" and Ogv plays but from 0:00. Then I retried the Webm and it was at 0:00. *scratches head* Desktop site, Timeless skin, iPad Air, Safari, iOS12. Pelagicmessages ) – (20:32 Sat 23, AEDT) 09:32, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Is it possible to display a playlist of videos?

This page doesn't mention playlists. Does Wikipedia not have an option to display several videos in a series, instead of displaying each video separately?

I know that video playlists can be created [https://jsfiddle.net/Barzi/Jzs6B/9/ using JavaScript], but I don't know if Wikipedia has this feature.

:You can somehow create it, using an infobox. Look at this example: :eu:Atari:Hezkuntza/Ikusgela/Eskaileratik_zuhaitzera#Edukien_arduradunak Theklan (talk) 21:27, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
