3 on 3 teams in infobox

Do we include 3 on 3 teams in the career section of players infobox? I noticed that players from the Unrivaled have them now but I recall that we did not do the same for Big3 players. Alvaldi (talk) 20:01, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

:This discussion has links to prior discussions that consensus not to include anything from Big3 in the infobox and lead. FIBA 3x3 teams are also not included; see Jimmer Fredette. However, would it really be within policy for a blanket ban on 3 on 3 careers of these players even in the prose? If it's in the prose, you can argue it can be listed both in the infobox and lead. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:22, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

::There's more leeway in the body, whereas the lead sentence, opening paragraph (MOS:ROLEBIO), and infobox should be focused on their core notability. —Bagumba (talk) 08:09, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

:The NBA project style guide says at WP:NBACAREERHIST: Consensus is to not list Big3 stints. I found a total of four relevant discussions on this project: (1, 2, 3, 4). Left guide (talk) 06:03, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

I don't really have a problem with mentioning 3x3 stints or achievements in the lead if it was a big part of their career. Regarding 3x3 in the infobox, I'm not sure it should be listed with 5x5 stints since it isn’t the same version of the sport, similar to indoor football and regular football. Paige Bueckers achievements article?

I'm wondering if we should create an article for Paige like Caitlin Clark has

List of career achievements by Caitlin Clark

Anyone have any thoughts? MaskedSinger (talk) 10:55, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

:I wouldn't bet the farm on the Clark page sticking around indefinitely; the broader community doesn't seem to be a big fan of these types of lists per WP:NOTSTATS. The size of :Category:Career achievements of basketball players has been steadily diminishing as of late from articles being redirected/deleted via AfD community consensus. Left guide (talk) 07:52, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

:The WP:AVOIDSPLIT guideline advises: Clark's page hasn't reached WP:TOOBIG, and Bueckers' is even smaller. —Bagumba (talk) 09:56, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Adding a steals_leader and blocks_leader on the Infobox basketball league season

I am making a this article Draft:2024–25 in European women's basketball and I would like to introduce a steals_leader and blocks_leader parameter for the Template:Infobox basketball league season as I think that is useful information. Can anyone help me please? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 18:41, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:@ILoveSport2006 I've reverted your edits on Infobox basketball league season as it doesn't look like they are working correctly and your change is showing up on every article that uses the template. Please use the template sandbox (Infobox basketball league season/sandbox) to experiment and only makes changes to the template when you're sure it's what you wants and that you have consensus here to make the changes. Nthep (talk) 19:48, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

::I understand your point but can someone fix it? Does anyone know what went wrong? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 22:38, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

User:Rikster2's edits to remove this project

It is my understanding that if a player played in an international pro competition or for his national team (open or youth) in either FIBA competition or FISU World University Games, this project should be on that player's talk page. I reverted Jalen Brunson. Then I tried to open a discussion on his talk page, which he deleted without response. Then, I did a quick scan of edits and saw players like Karl Malone, Detlef Schrempf, and Joe Kleine. Since the Olympics has its own project, Olympic play may not attract this project, but a player with other international tournaments like the Pan Am Games such as Ed Pinckney probably should not have been removed. Is my thinking calibrated right. Should Rikster's edits be reviewed.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:15, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

:I was pretty clear in my edit summary why I removed it. You disagreed and I didn’t dispute your putting it back, to me that was end of story. I don’t really think the Brunson article is going to be “worked” from this project when his career has been college and the NBA - I had thought the main focus of this project was leagues outside the NBA. To me it’s overkill to add all three projects unless players play in leagues other than those covered in the NBA, but it’s really not that big a deal to me. Rikster2 (talk) 15:09, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

::And I definitely don’t think Olympic players should automatically be added to this project. That’s what WP:OLYMPICS is for Rikster2 (talk) 15:18, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

:I can see the project wanting the international competitions tracked here. Does it want each player though, adding to the size of Wikipedia:WikiProject Basketball/Article alerts? What other benefits are there to tagging them with this project? Personally, I follow NBA players through WP:NBA, but it's up to others if they actually benefit from tracking here too. —Bagumba (talk) 17:43, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

::Well the flip side is what is the benefit of tracking a guy whose NBA career is only a 10-day contract by the WP:NBA. Maybe he should only have the basketball tag. Basically, we follow the rules that when you play in 1 NBA game, you get the category and are eligible for the tag. My point is I think there is probably a long list of Rikster edits in which he has deleted this project's template from players who are more prominently associated with the NBA. There is no consensus for such an editorial action. I found a quick handful of relevant players. Either we want them or we don't, but it is not really the type of thing that an editor should just run around doing without consensus. If we decided that this project is for contractual international league play rather than national team international tournament play then we should decide that as a group. Brunson edits first brought this to my attention. However, above I showed it was not an isolated edit.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 20:42, 30 April 2025 (UTC)

:::: Categories are for reader navigation, banners are for project maintenance. It's up to project members if they find it useful, which is why I asked about use cases. At any rate, I'll AGF on both of your parts, so let's just concentrate on what's best moving forward. —Bagumba (talk) 01:30, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

:We do have to be consistent on this. Klay Thompson has a pretty extensive US national team career, even in the youth level, until he was gutted by injuries. His talk page has banners for WP:CBB, WP:NBA, WP:B-BALL and WP:OLY. If our standard is one game played in college basketball to be added in WP:CBB, or 1 game in the NBA to be added in WP:NBA, that should also be the standard for other leagues not encompassed by those two WikiProjects, and that the B-BALL banner should be retained even if other projects have already included the article. There could be things such as maintainance that could affect the article (like deletion/discussion of navboxes, infoboxes, categories, etc.), and having it listed will help. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:20, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

::: But those are independent of the actual player pages being tagged. At one point, I might have even tagged some players like Thompson with WP:B-BALL because NBA is a "subset" of Basketball, WP:OTHERSTUFFGENERAL, he played in high school, etc. But moving forward, how is this helpful to the project? It's not a matter of being fair, it's about what is useful for maintenance. —Bagumba (talk) 00:55, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

:::I imagine that there are some editors who are unfamiliar with the agreed philosophy the B-Ball is for international play beyond the NBA and NCAA. Some may consider the high school or sub/superset relationship. The question here is what do we aspire to do.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:48, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

 • I concur with User:Howard the Duck in regards to the 1 game played banner consideration for WP:CBB, WP:NBA, WP:B-BALL and WP:OLY. For players who have not medaled in international tournaments, it is not going to always be obvious if they should be bannered with B-Ball. However, we should make no effort to remove B-Ball from players with medals templates in their infobox. I believe this is true for both open and youth competitions. I don't understand an argument to the contrary that would only apply to B-Ball.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:42, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
 • My recommendation given the discussion is the project is applied for players who participate in FIBA non-Olympic events. I believe WP:WikiProject Olympics is sufficient for NBA players who play in the Olympics only. But the Olympic events (e.g. Basketball at the 2024 Summer Olympics) should be coded to this project because otherwise there is no “basketball affiliated” project assigned to those articles. A case where I have also been removing the basketball project are players like Blair Rasmussen, who only have college and NBA experience (no FIBA). There is no reason this project should be applied to players like that in my opinion. Rikster2 (talk) 12:26, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
 • :Rasmussen looks like one of those legacy tag anything basketball under the sun. Nothing has come up continuing to support tags like his case. Per WP:PROJGUIDE: —Bagumba (talk) 13:02, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
 • :What about the type of player I am concerned about with medals templates in their infobox like Karl Malone, Detlef Schrempf and Jalen Brunson? You have removed those. Suppose we want to address a major policy change on international competitions depiction in medals templates. Presumably, this is the project to do that. Also what about non-FIBA like Pan-Am games, Commonwealth Games, World University Games and such?-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:14, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
 • :: I pretty clearly only exempted the Olympics. But I am pretty sure FIBA oversees the hoops competitions in those other events you list. Rikster2 (talk) 12:51, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
 • :::You have not responded regarding Karl Malone, Detlef Schrempf and Jalen Brunson. Also, I do not see any indication that events such as Pan American Games or Commonwealth Games are run by FIBA. Goodwill Games were clearly not run by FIBA. The renamed FISU World University Games are almost certainly not FIBA run. We need to be clear on where you stand on non-FIBA, non-Olympic international events that are often included in medals templates of infoboxes and whether athletes who compete in them are covered by this project.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 12:50, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
 • ::::Actually you don’t need to be clear where I stand. If you think my suggestion is trash, you can reject it and propose another. If you think my suggestion needs more definition then suggest it. You are the one who is passionate about this topic, I am not. And when I say “only the Olympics would be exempted,” then apply that lens to the players you are pointing out. Were their careers wholly college, NBA, Olympics? Then they shouldn’t get the WP:Basketball tag in my opinion. If they competed in other FIBA (international if you prefer) competitions then they do. Thanks, I’m done on this particular topic. Proposed deletion of :Newman Lakers

File:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article :Newman Lakers has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NN non-notable, no indication of notability, no references, no championships, minor team of a minor sport in a local competition; COI-author (original article author is coach and captain of the basketball team)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 19:18, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
