Herald Media Group

I guess it safe to add [https://biz.heraldcorp.com The Herald Business] and [https://www.heraldpop.com Herald Pop] here or do they need more discussions? 𝙳.πŸ·πŸΎπšπš‘ (πšƒπšŠπš•πš”) 23:39, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

:I don't think The Herald Group was discussed here at all before. Emiya Mulzomdao (talk) 02:29, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:Herald Corporation, falls under WP:NEWSORG. Yes CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 08:04, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Grapesurgeon your input? CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 11:06, 8 June 2025 (UTC)

::Sorry, busy and brain tired lately, while I'm active on wiki everything I've been doing is like mindless fmting stuff. Maybe will look into it later, but it'll be a while grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 13:49, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

ChosunBiz

ChosunBiz is doing automatic machine translation without human review. For now, should mark autotranslations as unreliable. I don't know much about the rest of the reliability of the website, but can disqualify that part based on that alone. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 19:34, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

:Could I see a sample of its articles that use machine translation? ChosunBiz is an economics topic department of the corporation, so the Korean version may be as reliable as their other major news presses, although I personally find The Chosun Ilbo a mixed bag on the whole. Emiya Mulzomdao (talk) 12:30, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

::Most articles I can find on its English version were translated by OpenAI. [https://biz.chosun.com/en/en-society/2025/05/28/5FUGNDERAVG6ZN4WQSXFMYG5XU/][https://biz.chosun.com/en/en-industry/2025/05/22/P57HZKKKYVBL3BJPU5VUP5UMWE/]

::The Korean version of the site I'm not aware of any issues with. I'm just speaking about the English part. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 19:15, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Since December of 2023, ChosunBiz began publishing AI-generated content under the "http://biz.chosun.com/en" URL. That URL as unreliable, but in current articles replace it with the original Korean version. CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 11:27, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

::::Hm. I may be able to use AWB to just automatically swap out the english version with the Korean version when I see it. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 16:45, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

:::::I quickly looked into this btw, and it's not so straightforward. Articles have categories in url and not sure if conversion is fully possible. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 13:52, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

:::The articles include a clear warning about the translation below the contents and links to the original Korean versions, so it's quite an easy issue to deal with in this case. Emiya Mulzomdao (talk) 13:17, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

:@Grapesurgeon: are you referring to the articles that state "This article has been translated by OpenAI."? CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 14:07, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Kukmin Ilbo needs to be added.

KukiNews, although had started out as one of the news brands for Kukmin Ilbo, is now a seperate news media since May 2014. Kukmin Ilbo is one of the most popular 전ꡭ쒅합일간지s in Korea, and covers broad topics. It should be added and marked as reliable. Someone123454321 (talk) 19:52, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:It is also regarded as 12λŒ€ 전ꡭ쒅합일간지 or 10λŒ€ 쒅합일간지 by many too, with Asiatoday being added to the 12 recently. (https://news.nate.com/view/20240407n12318). Someone123454321 (talk) 19:57, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:We usually require more research into past issues before we unilaterally mark as reliable. Lot of major newspapers we mark as unreliable because of significant issues relating to reliability. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 20:00, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

::Can we at least add it here, cause it's so popular and yet not even mentioned. And can you tell me more about this past issues, so that I could do research about it? Someone123454321 (talk) 20:30, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:::We add it after we've done research. I don't know what its past issues are, I'm saying you need to research them if you want to propose adding it to the list. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 20:32, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

::::Kookmin Ilbo was first published on December 10, 1988. It is operated by the Yoido Full Gospel Church, and the publisher and editor at the time of its founding was Cho Yong-woo (θΆ™ιžη₯). The newspaper was launched with the aim of promoting national evangelization and global missions, as well as representing the voice of Christians. It was founded under the company motto of β€œLove, Truth, Humanity,” and adopted a policy of not carrying advertisements related to alcohol, cigarettes, or entertainment venues considered inappropriate.

::::Upon its launch on December 10, 1988, Kookmin Ilbo also published and distributed a free publication called Home Guide. On September 1 of the following year, it changed its typesetting system to include both vertical and horizontal writing. On March 31, 1990, it launched the weekly newspaper Sisa Topic, but later discontinued Home Guide on September 11, and Sisa Topic was also shut down at the end of 1992.

::::Since January 1994, the paper significantly expanded its mission pages to include a variety of religious information and theological stories, as well as domestic and international church news, striving to represent the interests and rights of the Christian community. It also publishes a sister magazine, the monthly Shinang-gye (World of Faith), which is distributed to Korean expatriates in over 10 countries around the world.

::::In January 1993, the Church Growth Research Institute was established to offer specialized consulting and research on church growth, providing information to over 50,000 pastors. The institute also holds seminars and regularly conducts clinics to address factors that hinder church growth.

::::That same year, it established the Kookmin Literary Award, with a total prize of 140 million KRW (approximately $140,000 USD). The winning novel, Birds Cry Calling Their Own Names by Kim Hyung-kyung, sold over 300,000 copies and was later adapted into a theatrical production. In addition, the Kookmin Advertising Awards were established in 1995, and the Kookmin Mission Awards in 1996.

::::In 1992, the newspaper opened a bureau in Tokyo, followed by bureaus in Germany and Hong Kong in 1994, where local editions were published. It also exchanged articles and information through partnerships with Dagen in Sweden, Guangming Daily in China, and the U.S.-based Korea Gospel Broadcasting Network.

::::On May 27, 2002, Kookmin Ilbo expanded from 32 to 36 pages and transitioned to a morning edition. In May 2003, it further expanded to 40 pages and launched a new economic section, organizing the paper into three sections. On June 1, 2005, it also launched Cookie News.

::::In 2021, it also featured a special article marking its 33rd anniversary, which covered the history of its digital transformation.

::::On it's homepage, it introduces section covering Economy, Opinion, Politics, Social News, International News, Entertainment, Travel, Life, Humanity Love Recharge Station, and eSports, covering various topics.

::::As of 2021, its paid circulation was 58,730 copies. (I want to bring the source from abc association, but they are in form of PDF. Please search it up.), and ranked 11th in the country.

::::This is what I have discovered. Is this how we do it? Someone123454321 (talk) 20:55, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:::::We don't really need a bio like this for every publication. What we need instead is looking specifically at issues that are worrying about reliability, not stuff that's just dry administrative information, e.g. how many pages it had.

:::::Why couldn't you just look at the other recent discussions on this talk page to see how we previously reached consensus on reliability? grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 21:01, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

::::::Kukmin Ilbo has been criticized for being sensitive on topics regarding protestant church, but It is known that there were no religious restrictions for hiring general reporters, and editorial freedom was largely guaranteed for the most part. Kukmin Ilbo hires professional journalists, and has separated departments for their fields. They have also list their journalists at κΈ°μžλ‰΄μŠ€λ£Έ. There has been a controversy regarding embezzlement charges and misuse of the newspaper's funds. but he has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, and this does not affect the reliability of the article. Kukmin Ilbo is known to have a clear conservative tendency on social and cultural issues, but this is just a tendency of the News site, just like any other. It doesn't use AI for it's articles like ChosunBiz mentioned above, as it doesn't seem to have an English site. Someone123454321 (talk) 21:22, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:::::::Oh I meant it's president when I said embezzlement charges. Someone123454321 (talk) 21:26, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:::::::Need to provide sources for these things.

:::::::Respectfully it's a bit hard for me to trust your judgment, given many other past bad experiences with your understandings of Wikipedia policy (incl. in this conversation). Will wait on others to participate. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 21:29, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

Dongascience

https://www.dongascience.com/

Published by the same publishers of Donga Science. I don't think the magazine and the website publishes the same articles, though. Source has its coverage focused on science-related topics but also covers news on South Korean industry, innovation and politics. AFAIK both the magazine and the website are considered generally reliable and has received multiple awards.[https://www.dongascience.com/news.php?idx=68710], [https://biz.chosun.com/science-chosun/science/2022/11/11/ERPFHOH2IFBJ5OC7JB6MHJGWQI/] -- 00101984hjw (talk) 00:35, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
