A script that pulls out the content of a category and buids a navbox from it could be useful. Could also be tricky, and would have to be told how many levels to go down the rabbit hole or it might not get back this week. The product would have to be human inspected and probably in most cases have most of the content deleted as not relevant, but worth a look, I think. Maybe each time it is ready to look at a subccategory it should ask for confirmation [include/skip], and maybe after it has listed a subcategory there shoud be another retrospective [include/skip] option. · · · Peter Southwood ^(talk): 04:47, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

: One possible approach here is to build a tool to place hidden tags pointing to categories. Then the category harvester comes along and reads those tags, replacing the current content in a particular section (the previous fetch) with the current membership of the category specified in the tag in that section. JL-Bot uses a similar approach with maintaining Recognized content sections.

::::OK, I have used that before. It seems to work well enough for some applications. Categories in general tend to be a bit less predictable regarding content than some of the more specialised maintenance categories. I don't know if this would be sufficient filtering to get generally usable lists. I suspect that most of the time some human oversight will be necessary. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like [https://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page WikiSpecies]), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

I understand that this wikiproject is probably dead, but I'm posting here in case it pops up in a watchlist of an active editor.

I've just created my first navbox for articles – {{tl|Certification marks}} – on the basis that I would've found one existing to have been useful to me. But my limitations on internal Wikipedia stuff (after about 10 years editing here, I think, I fear they're completely permanent) mean I have no idea at all about how to do the [template]/Documentation bit or how to categorise the navbox or the like. Is there a very simple guide (for I am a bear of very little brain) to how to go about doing this? — Trey Maturin has spoken 18:24, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
