Newspapers notability
The Newspapers wikiproject is proposing to turn their notability guideline for newspapers into an official guideline. There's an RFC on the talk page: RFC on their talk page. You can ~~go your own way~~ make up your own mind on how you feel about it, but List of newspapers in Oregon and :Category:African-American newspapers of Oregon show how we've benefited. tedder (talk) 04:33, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
Oregon Map Requests?
Hello! I'm still around doing my WikiGnoming thing and sometimes gnashing my teeth at AfD. Thanks for not letting the place burn down. Anyway, I went back to school for geography/GIS and I'm wondering if there are any Oregon-related maps people would find useful to add to existing articles. If they are within my (potential) skill set, they might be good class projects for me. Feel free to drop a note here or on my talk page. Cheers, Valfontis (talk) 22:50, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
:What an amazing offer, and good to see you here! I'm still so delighted by some of the maps WikiProject Maps folks made on request during FA push for Columbia River and some other articles. I'll be sure to keep this in mind, and look forward to seeing what ideas others come up with. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 05:33, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
::Oh, I'll take a look, thanks! Valfontis (talk) 06:11, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
:I plan to bring List of cities in Oregon to FLC status sometime this year, and a map of the cities would be helpful. Made a similar map for Washington's list years ago, but if you'd like to have a go, feel free. SounderBruce 17:48, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
::That's cool! Do we want the city limits shapes for Oregon cities, or are points on a map OK, or why not both? Valfontis (talk) 07:41, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
:::I think the city shapes might be best. Would be even better if we could get an interactive version working, but Wikidata doesn't play nice with that many entries. SounderBruce 08:40, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Good to know. I'm going to be learning animation, hopefully. So having over 200 incorporated cities is too big a dataset? Valfontis (talk) 19:04, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
Nice to see y'all here. Hijacking a bit, was just talking to Pete about seeing {{u|OlympiaBuebird}} had popped up on Valfontis's talk page, happy to see Oregon activity- and activity on the northern frontier. OlympiaBuebird focuses on that "north of Vancouver, south of Olympia" section of Washington and it's been cool to see so much activity- both on existing articles like Centralia Tragedy and solid new articles. Nice seeing some locals out and about! tedder (talk) 22:23, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
Hands Off protest
Any Oregon cities missing at Hands Off protest? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:51, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

[[Forest Grove Sound]]
An IP user proposed deletion, but placed it on the talk page, and didn't inform you, the major project. I disabled the wiki markers, but you may choose to use WP:AfD. Bearian (talk) 15:54, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:Thank you for the note! Pete Forsyth (talk) 00:41, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
::FWIW, my hot take on this is it would pass WP:GNG, but I wouldn't fight it if someone took it to AfD. Valfontis (talk) 22:09, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
J.H. Baxter & Co. in the news
I was more interested in learning the history of the company than about its recent troubles, so I whipped this up J. H. Baxter and Co. It's got plenty of room to add info about the background and [https://www.oregonlive.com/environment/2025/04/president-of-eugene-wood-treatment-plant-gets-90-day-prison-term-for-lying-to-deq-inspectors.html most recent episode] of newsmaking if anyone is inclined. From what I gather, they also had locations in Renton, Washington, Green, The Dalles, and Portland, Oregon, and Long Beach and Crescent City California. There are also ties to McCormick & Baxter, who have a couple notable Superfund cleanup sites. Valfontis (talk) 16:15, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
City population numbers
I have been cleaning up List of cities in Oregon for a future FLC and noticed today that most of the 2020 numbers don't align with the actual numbers used by the U.S. Census Bureau. And it seems that most of those misaligned numbers are used in various city articles. Before I try and solicit help from an editor with a census script, would anyone be able to explain the discrepancy? Any help is appreciated, especially if someone has a convenient source for the incorporation years of each city. SounderBruce 06:09, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
:Examples? I downloaded the Excel sheet from the Census bureau, and the populations for Albany city, Amity city, Antelope city, Arlington city, and Ashland city, Oregon, all match what is in the table. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:33, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
::Portland, Eugene, Salem, Gresham, Hillsboro, Bend, Beaverton, Medford, Springfield, and Corvallis all have a different number than the Census CSV. SounderBruce 18:10, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
:::It looks like those numbers may be from the ""April 1, 2020 Estimates Base" column rather than the "Population Estimate (as of July 1)". I couldn't tell you which one is better to use. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:34, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
:There are editors who like to use the [https://www.pdx.edu/population-research/population-estimate-reports PSU population estimates]. Is it possible they are using those numbers and not correcting the year? Valfontis (talk) 18:42, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Good article reassessment for [[Klamath River]]
Klamath River has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Z1720 (talk) 20:24, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
I'm surprised there wasn't an article for the Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta already. Almost 40 years of history to add, if any project members are interested in collaborating. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:02, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
