After warning a user for external link spamming of this fansite to the article Carly Pope per WP:ELNO & WP:SPAM, it has started being inserted as a "reference" by another editor which violates WP:BLP. There is no concensus for the link on the talk page. I'd appreciate the action and input of other editors so I can take this article off my watchlist and not violate WP:3RR.

The name of the company which owns this and other fansites is the same as the username: Pezzy Productions.[carly-pope.com/site.shtml] [giovanni-ribisi.com/siteinfo.html]

I am not the same person. I started a discussion after Dissolve refused to and persisted on removing links without discussion. From the WP guidelines ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ELMAYBE WP:ELMAYBE #4], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ELOFFICIAL WP:ELOFFICIAL] third paragraph, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SPS WP:SPS] third paragraph) it seems it would be an exception to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ELNO WP:ELNO #11 under Links To Avoid]. BUT, Dissolve continues to remove links without proper interpretation or explanation.--Csylcox (talk) 03:33, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, Dissolve, you did violate WP:3RR... See the history on Carly Pope.--Csylcox (talk) 03:52, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

:Reverting vandalism (spam) and biography of living persons violations is generally not considered a violation of WP:3RR, see WP:EW#WHATISNT. I do find it curious that this is the second time in the article history[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Carly_Pope&action=history] that User:Csylcox showed up minutes after User:Pezzy was reverted for inserting this link. dissolvetalk 04:18, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

::It isn't vandalism per vandalism: "Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism." Also you should've opened a discussion instead of deciding for yourself that it was a violation and should be removed. And what does it matter if I was watching the article and thought the link should be there? You thought it shouldn't have been over a year ago and there it sat for that long until you 'decided' to remove it again. I'm now curious about your motives in all this.--Csylcox (talk) 04:38, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

::::::: That's her site and I have nothing to do with it. Plainly all I was trying to do was put a link that seemed right for the article and some person kept removing it when they wouldn't explain nor discuss anything. And no money (sadly) is made off of that site. All the ads on there are from the host and to us it is free because of them. If we did make money off of it we wouldn't have argued about it and probably would never list it on the article to begin with. Neither our accounts are spam accounts and she has used that name for over 12yrs now. Why would we do it for a single actress that isn't quite as popular as such other Hollywood people, for instance, Hugh Jackman, or whoever else is big nowadays. And I never knew of the single-IP equals a 'single user' policy. Not like any of the policies are actually easily found on here. On a side note, I find it hypocritical that to participate in this investigation one has to get around the autoblock that seems to be automatically set whenever this type of thing is first investigated. This doesn't allow the 'defending' party any chance to respond during the initial period of this investigation unless they break the autoblock policy and go around it.--Csylcox (talk) 00:30, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Long term persistant spamming in apparent violation of both our Conflict of interest and anti-spam guidelines, meatpuppetry, edit warring and continued editing in pursuit of inclusion despite discussion and consensus these links are not appropriate. I am not confident based on the evidence of multiple accounts, there will not be further disruption in connection with these sites, therefore these are now blacklisted, {{added}}. If a specific link is needed as a citation (despite it failing WP:RS, and other inclusion criteria), an etablished editor can request it on the whitelist on a case-by-case basis, where the url can be demonstrated as an appropriate source. --Hu12 (talk) 17:09, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Continued activity by same SPA reported in October. The specific links being added by the SPA to the EL sections do not expand on the content already in the article, the only new data is links to providers. However, the full site should not be blacklisted because the site does have value with many of its other pages as potential references for multiple articles, and has already been used for that purpose by several established editors.

It may be reasonable to blacklisted the specific section of the site which is being abused. All links being spammed follow the pattern:

The "/Prevention/" is unique to the spammed links, the links in use as refs are in different sections of the website.

Alternately, XLinkBot may be a good use for this, if it can be targeted to the "/Prevention/" link addition, and not other url's from the site. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 17:43, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Looks like ongoing, systematic link additions to this user-generated wiki through a template. Links made to Wikinvest.com via template don't seem to show up in external link search or in "what links here", but there are about 214 articles with multiple references and external links to Wikinvest.com. See [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam/2009_Archive_Feb_1#wikinvest.com_spam_from_User:Vikramparsani] from February 2009 and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_40#Wikinvest] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:67.188.207.223] from August 2009 concerning previous discussions about this website. If this is spam, is there a way to delete or remove the template so any future abuse can be noticed more quickly? Its article doesn't show any notability for the website, but I haven't done any research for better sourcing. was deleted on 1 November 2008 and recreated the next day from userfied content. :When I poked at this a few months ago my conclusion was that this site is a very interesting but unreliable source so we should reference it very carefully. When last I checked, it was not being used carefully and was being used freely as a reference. That it was being used so much by one editor also made my "spammy sense" tingle. --ElKevbo (talk) 19:18, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

:Hi, you had reached out to me about my edits creating several of these links. I am a financial analyst and cover many of the companies whose information I was updating. I was using Wikinvest as a source for data because they have the fastest publishing of government filings of any of the major, freely available financial portals I have encountered. That is, while some of their content is wiki-based, I was referencing only company filings, which are not user generated and are in fact sourced from government filings. The SEC tends to lag in the release of these filings by upwards of two weeks. as such I was using the statements published on Wikinvest as the source for these filings. I am not spamming the site whatsoever, and most of the company boxes I am updating have information that is over two fiscal years old or is not sourced whatsoever or is incorrectly reporting the metrics (listing current assets as total assets, for example). The information in these company boxes is seriously out of date, and until there is an automated fix, adding the real information from the SEC filings seems like a viable option. Do you have any advice for what I can do? Thanks! Financial Zorro (talk) 00:07, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

:Update, those changes to my updates seem reverted now. When I logged in originally it looked like someone had rolled back several of my edits, though now they appear to be back to how they had been. I did not do this, so please let me know what that means (sorry, I'm rather new at this). Thanks. Financial Zorro (talk) 00:23, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

::I am not enough of a finance expert to know if it's advisable to cite SEC filings but I imagine that it depends on what you're pulling from them and how you're presenting the information. I think this is analogous to how we treat court filings, birth certificates, and other primary sources.

::But regardless of the advisability of citing the filings I recommend making it absolutely clear that you're citing the filings and not user-created or other content original to the website in question. In other words, make sure you're properly citing the SEC filings so it doesn't appear that you're just citing information from Wikinvest.com. --ElKevbo (talk) 03:35, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

:::I don't know how those other people were linking, or what they were linking to, but the only citations I was making were directly to numbers from SEC filings and only for major financial metrics. Many of the preexisting citations were out of date or did not cite anything whatsoever, as such I was only trying to update this information. Going forward, I'll be sure to be explicit in my statement that the information is coming from annual government filings. -- Financial Zorro (talk) 21:21, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/ConnectomeBot. WP:ELNO, WP:NOTLINK and WP:RS. Site has only been around since 9 September 2009. There are 5 registered Users (only 2 look like actual humans). Content is scrapped by Automated import of articles(via. ConnectomeBot). I expect this site will soon be riddle with adsense and advertising, monitized by leeching off wikipedia for traffic. Just another spambot. A discussion about this is at Village pump (proposals)--Hu12 (talk) 07:30, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

This bot has made no contributions. Shouldn't a spam report be about spam? --IP69.226.103.13 (talk) 07:50, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

:{{User|Unidesigner}} is a Single-purpose account, with no edits outside promoting "ConnectomeWiki". In fact, all his edits are "ConnectomeWiki" related, and [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)&diff=325026169&oldid=325022193 this post] identifies him as the webmaster (who is [http://connectome.ch/wiki/Special:Contributions/Stephan.Gerhard this user]) which makes this a clear Conflict of interest. Since Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising and based on this users edit history, the account seems to exist for the sole and primary purpose of promoting "ConnectomeWiki" in apparent violation of Conflict of interest and anti-spam guidelines. --Hu12 (talk) 06:37, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

:As I've mentioned a number of times already: you haven't uncovered a conspiracy to spam. There's NO secret here. You didn't have too look for this information or accuse him of what he says he's doing. You can ask, although this would require discussion with the user, rather than talking at and about the user in multiple forums. However, he has covered all of your points in his response to this post in another WP:Forum where you posted the same thing.

:I'm a single purpose account: I want scientific accuracy. I edit about the city I live in:Conflict of Interest. How many more extraneous issues are there to post on the SPAM board about this new user who politely inquired of the community about adding these links?

:It's time to end this, since the user already discussed the issue with the community, answered all questions politely and directly, revealed all of his motives (clever way to uncover: ask him), and has decided against moving forward.

:This should be renamed the "hate on new users board," imo. --IP69.226.103.13 (talk) 20:25, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

::A conflict of interest doesn't have to be "secret" to be unacceptable. A "spam-only" (or "external links to my personally owned website-only", if you prefer) account is not desirable for Wikipedia. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:56, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

fancorepodcast.com

{{IPSummary|24.87.60.96}}

Has added a number of suspected spam links to articles including www.fancorepodcast.com. This website could be a legitimate alternative webpage site, but it has no supporting documentation that it is a reliable source, so I removed the links. www.2raonline.com also appears not to be any sort of legitimate website for referencing an encyclopedia. The IP is a DSL account, so I didn't bother to notify the IP about this, but the links might be discussed for blocking. --IP69.226.103.13 (talk) 22:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

http://spam.webhostingservices.us

Inappropriate link inserted in several different web hosting related articles, mostly in Web hosting service but also in Dedicated hosting service, Internet hosting service, Shared web hosting service, Green hosting and others. The link has been removed by several different editors and warnings placed on the various IPs and registered editor placing it; the editor was finally indefinitely blocked for spamming this link.

Somme of the adds have been sneaky attempts to escape notice, such as [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Web_hosting_service&diff=prev&oldid=327843249 this] (which happened after several warnings for spamming)

There are a couple of other links that have been added by the same people:

  • {{LinkSummary|webhostingsearch.com}} added by CollinsS,

and

  • {{LinkSummary|free-css-layouts.com}} added by 93.114.141.244 - these links are not spammed as much as webhostingservices.us but are inappropriate for WP and part of the same spamming scheme. --bonadea contributions talk 11:29, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
