It tells the story of Ma Xiaojun ({{lang-zh|s=马小军|t=馬小軍|p=Mǎ Xiǎojūn|labels=no}}), a son of a military official who roams around Beijing during one summer. He falls in love with a young woman named Mi Lan ({{lang-zh|s=米兰|t=米蘭|p=Mǐ Lán|labels=no}}).
Adaptations
The 1994 film version, titled In the Heat of the Sun, was directed by Wen Jiang.
