Saliba began his professional career at Saint-Étienne after graduating from the club's youth academy. He represented the side during their 2018–19 campaign, who secured UEFA Europa League qualification.

Saliba joined Arsenal in July 2019 for a reported fee of £27 million. After being shipped off in three consecutive loan spells, he returned to Arsenal in 2022, and made his debut on 5 August. Saliba scored his first goal for the club shortly after, helping the Gunners to a second-place finish. The following season, he played an instrumental role in Arsenal's back line, with the club only conceding 29 goals as Saliba played every minute of their Premier League campaign.

After being capped 27 times at the youth level for France, Saliba made his senior debut for country on 3 June 2022.

Although looking to temporarily extend his loan, had Saliba featured, Arsenal reportedly would have been due to pay Saint-Étienne €2.5 million. On 16 March 2023, Saliba picked up a back injury in Arsenal's Europa League match against Sporting CP, which would ultimately rule him out for the rest of the season. He had played in all of Arsenal's Premier League games up until then, and it was initially thought that he would return within a few weeks to aid in Arsenal's title run-in. His absence proved to be crucial, as Arsenal struggled defensively, and their subsequent dip in form saw them surrender their lead at the top of the table to eventual champions Manchester City.{{cite web |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64971711 |first=Emma |last=Sanders |accessdate=20 August 2023 |date=16 March 2023 |publisher=BBC Sport |title=Arsenal knocked out in penalty shootout defeat}}{{cite web |date=16 March 2023 |title=Every word from Arteta's post-Sporting CP presser |url=https://www.arsenal.com/full-transcript-mikel-arteta-post-match-press-conference-read-every-word-europa-league-sporting-cp |accessdate=20 August 2023 |website= |publisher=Arsenal F.C.}}{{cite web |last=Small |first=Aidan |date=19 March 2023 |title=Arteta on the win, Saka and injuries |url=https://www.arsenal.com/news/arteta-win-saka-and-injuries |accessdate=20 August 2023 |website= |publisher=Arsenal F.C.}}{{cite web |last=Rogers |first=Jonathon |date=5 May 2023 |title=Arteta on Gabriel and Saliba's injury status |url=https://www.arsenal.com/news/arteta-gabriel-and-salibas-injury-status |accessdate=20 August 2023 |website= |publisher=Arsenal F.C.}}{{cite web |last=Rogers |first=Jonathon |date=12 May 2023 |title=Arteta update on Zinchenko and Saliba |url=https://www.arsenal.com/news/artetas-update-zinchenko-and-saliba |accessdate=20 August 2023 |website= |publisher=Arsenal F.C.}}
