Windsor Dam was originally built to control flooding of Ladysmith, in KwaZulu-Natal by the Klip River, but silt buildup quickly reduced its efficiency. The Windsor Dam was commissioned in 1950, has a capacity of {{convert|772|m3}}, and a surface area of {{convert|0.826|km2}}, the dam wall is {{convert|17|m}} high.
The Qedusizi Dam further downstream in the Klip River was completed in 1997 to take over the task of flood management.{{cite web|url=http://www.info.gov.za/otherdocs/1998/gov-rep.htm|title=Water resource management|date=1998|publisher=South African Government Information|accessdate=2008-09-08}}
