History

The original hospital built on Marlow Hill was the "High Wycombe War Memorial Hospital" which opened in 1923 and was extended in 1932.{{cite web|url=http://www.stevebaker.info/2012/02/a-brief-history-wycombe-hospital/|title=A brief history of Wycombe Hospital|first=Steve|last=Baker|accessdate=2 April 2018}} The current hospital, Wycombe Hospital, was built in phases on a site adjacent to the old Memorial Hospital with Phase 1 being completed in 1966, Phase 2 being completed in 1969 and Phase 3 being completed in 1971. An extension to the hospital was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract in the late 1990s.{{Cite web|url=http://www.medicalarchitecture.com/projects/wycombe-general-hospital/|title=Wycombe General Hospital|publisher=Medical Architecture|accessdate=2 April 2018}} The construction work was carried out by Taylor Woodrow and completed in 2000 as part of a scheme across the South Buckinghamshire hospitals at a cost of some £45 million.{{cite web|url=http://www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca/wp-content/uploads/PART-1-January-July-1999.pdf|title=NHS capital expenditure and the private finance initiative—expansion or contraction?|page=49|publisher=British Medical Journal|date=3 July 1999|accessdate=1 April 2018}}{{cite web|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/news/first-private-hospitals-for-nhs-1583845.html |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/archive/20220507/https://www.independent.co.uk/news/first-private-hospitals-for-nhs-1583845.html |archive-date=7 May 2022 |url-access=subscription |url-status=live|title=First private hospitals for NHS|date=27 November 1995|publisher=The Independent|accessdate=2 April 2018}}{{cbignore}}
