History

X-Ray Records{{cite web|url=https://www.discogs.com/label/31830-X-Ray-Records-2|title=X-Ray Records (2)|website=Discogs}} is an imprint under the Cleopatra Records, Inc. label group that focuses on hip hop and modern R&B. The imprint began in 2000 just as the label was starting to diversify after predominantly focusing on gothic and industrial music throughout the late ‘90s. It made an auspicious start with SX-10,{{cite web|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=mw8EAAAAMBAJ&q=SX-10+X-ray+records&pg=PA28|title=Billboard|first=Nielsen Business Media|last=Inc|date=17 June 2000|publisher=Nielsen Business Media, Inc.|via=Google Books}} the hip hop/metal hybrid featuring Sen Dog of Cypress Hill. Releases from KRS-One, Mellow Man Ace, Gravediggaz, Junior M.A.F.I.A. and Westside Connection{{cite web|url=https://www.discogs.com/Various-Westside-Connection-Westside-Nation-Gangsta-Nation-Live/release/11420597|title=Various & Westside Connection - Westside Nation + Gangsta Nation Live|website=Discogs}} followed.

The burgeoning imprint achieved a first for the Cleopatra family in 2005 when the album It's Not a Game by Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony member Layzie Bone{{cite web|url=http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2005/may/31/layzie-bone-of-bone-n-harmony-drops-solo/|title=Layzie Bone of Bone-n-Harmony Drops Solo|first=J. That attracted more talent to the roster, including notorious hip hop outlaw DMX,{{cite web|url=https://www.discogs.com/DMX-Greatest-Hits-With-A-Twist/release/8711551|title=DMX - Greatest Hits With A Twist|website=Discogs}} P. Diddy prodigy Loon, Pastor Troy, Coolio, Afroman, and Vanilla Ice.
