Xenoconger is a genus of eels in the family Chlopsidae (false morays). T. 1912 (Sept.) [ref. 3643] "New fishes from Aldabra and Assumption, collected by Mr. J. C. F. Fryer". The Transactions of the Linnean Society of London. Second Series: Zoology v. 15 (pt 2, no. 18): 301-302. It is a tropical, marine eel which is known solely from Assumption Island in the Indian Ocean and Tokunoshima in the Amami Islands.[https://amamishimbun.co.jp/2021/05/01/31243/ 日本初記録種「ウンブキアナゴ」 奄美新聞] It is known to dwell at a depth range of {{convert|1|to|5|m|ft}}, and inhabit benthic rock crevices.
