Species

This genus and its species names were formerly included in Bracteantha and before that in Helichrysum.

{{As of|2024|September}} the authoritative Australian Plant Census recognises thirteen formally named species and five accepted species awaiting formal naming, description and publication:{{Cite web |title=Vascular Plants |url=https://biodiversity.org.au/nsl/services/search/taxonomy?product=APC&tree.id=51209179&name=Xerochrysum&inc._scientific=&inc.scientific=on&inc._cultivar=&max=100&display=apc&search=true |access-date=2024-09-06 |website=biodiversity.org.au}}

;Species provisionally named, described and accepted by the authoritative Australian Plant Name Index while awaiting formal publication

A large scale molecular study conducted in 2022 expands the number of Xerochrysum species to 24, but as of 2024 has not been used for the Australian Plant Census.{{Cite journal |last1=Collins |first1=Timothy L. |last2=Schmidt-Lebuhn |first2=Alexander N. |last3=Andrew |first3=Rose L. |last4=Telford |first4=Ian R.
