History

The company's first production was Aishath Rishmy and Aminath Rasheedha's debut direction Hukuru Vileyrey (2006), which was based on a novel published by Ibrahim Waheed on Haveeru Daily 3 years before.{{cite news|url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv/dhivehi/entertainment/35543 |title=Hukuru Vileyrey - Big hopes, big challenges: Ainthu |newspaper=Haveeru Daily |author=Naseer, Ismail |language=dv|date=20 July 2006 |access-date=8 October 2012 }}{{dead link|date=June 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} The film was a commercial success. It was considered as "one of the few acceptable horror movies the Maldives film industry has ever produced".{{cite news|url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv/entertainment/31025 |title=Fanaa: Proof of Yaaraa's immaturity |newspaper=Haveeru Daily |author=Naafiz, Ali |date=19 July 2010 |access-date=8 October 2012 }}{{dead link|date=June 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} The film was later released as a 15 episode television series with the inclusion of several clips that were cut from the theatrical release.{{cite news|url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv/dhivehi/entertainment/49056 |title="Hukuru Vileyrey" releasing as a Drama |newspaper=Haveeru Daily |author=Ahmed, Fazeena |language=dv|date=23 November 2006 |access-date=8 October 2012 }}{{dead link|date=June 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} The company then went on to produce a family drama film Fanaa (2010) which was directed by Aishath Rishmy.{{cite news |url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv/entertainment/3102 |title=Fanaa: Proof of Yaaraa's immaturity |language=dv|work=Haveeru |last=Nafiz |first=Ali |date=15 July 2010 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100718092407/http://www.haveeru.com.mv/?page=dates&date=2010-07-15 |url-status=dead|archive-date=2010-07-18 |access-date=18 July 2010 }} Based on a novel published by Waheed titled Balgish, the film received a mixed to negative response from critics; Ali Naafiz from Haveeru Daily classified the film as the "worst Maldivian film released so far" during the year.

Their next production was Ahmed Azmeel's debut direction Hiyy Yaara Dheefa (2011), starring Ali Seezan, Aishath Rishmy, Niuma Mohamed, Ahmed Azmeel and Aminath Rasheedha.{{cite news|url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/maldives_film_industry/111417 |title="Hiyy Yaaraa Dheefa" premiered |language=dv|work=Haveeru |last=Nadheem |first=Ahmed |date=13 October 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111014210956/http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/maldives_film_industry/111417 |url-status=dead|archive-date=14 October 2011 |access-date=11 October 2018}} The film was a financial loss to the producers and received negative reviews from critics pointing to similarities with Bollywood comedy-drama film Ishq (1997) and Kundan Shah's family drama Dil Hai Tumhaara (2002).{{cite news|url=http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/111747 |title="Hiyy Yaaraa Dheefa" review |language=dv|work=Haveeru |last=Nadheem |first=Ahmed |date=20 October 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111023000541/http://www.haveeru.com.mv:80/dhivehi/entertainment/111747 |url-status=dead|archive-date=23 October 2011 |access-date=11 October 2018}} Six years later, they went on to produce Ravee Farooq's critically acclaimed crime thriller Vishka (2017) which revolves around a single-minded woman, Vishka, who gets trapped between an immoral person and a corrupt politician.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/695 |title=Vishka will not be an ordinary film |language=dv|publisher=Mihaaru |author=Adhushan, Ahmed |date=31 May 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160603160222/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/695 |archive-date=3 June 2016 |access-date=3 June 2016}}{{cite news|url=https://sun.mv/87006 |title=Vishka: A woman ruled over an immoral man |language=dv|work=Sun |last=Musthafa |first=Mohamed |date=10 March 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180402112712/https://sun.mv/87006 |url-status=live|archive-date=2 April 2018 |access-date=30 March 2018}} Prior to release it faced controversies as Hassan Haleel requested a deferment in release claiming he allegedly owns the story and script of the film.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/news/14126|title=The request of deferment in release of Vishka declined |language=dv|work=Mihaaru |last=Ibrahim |first=Muizzu |date=8 March 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180402113207/https://mihaaru.com/news/20155|url-status=live|archive-date=2 April 2018 |access-date=30 March 2018}} However, the film was cleared for exhibition with the court order proclaiming that the ownership of the script and story belongs to Rishmy.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/news/20155 |title=Court proclaimed owner of Vishka as Rishmy |language=dv|work=Mihaaru |last=Ibrahim |first=Muizzu |date=9 July 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180402113207/https://mihaaru.com/news/20155|url-status=live|archive-date=2 April 2018 |access-date=30 March 2018}} Upon release, the film opened to a positive response from critics.{{cite news|url=https://avas.mv/30549 |title=Vishka can't be controlled, so does its praise! |language=dv|work=Mihaaru |last=Nadheem |first=Ahmed |date=8 March 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180402112956/https://avas.mv/30549 |url-status=live|archive-date=2 April 2018 |access-date=30 March 2018}} The film was screened at the SAARC Film Festival 2017.{{cite news|url=https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/27188 |title=SAARC Film Festival 2017: Best Actress named as Rishmy |language=dv|work=Mihaaru |last=Adhushan |first=Ahmed |date=25 November 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180402112335/https://mihaaru.com/entertainment/27188|url-status=live|archive-date=2 April 2018 |access-date=30 March 2018}}
