Company history

Yesware was founded in 2010 by Matthew Bellows, Rajat Bhargava and Cashman Andrus.{{cite web|last=Kirsner|first=Scott|title=Yesware gets $4 million in new funding to help salespeople manage e-mail communications (and soon, phone calls too)|url=http://www.boston.com/business/technology/innoeco/2012/06/yesware_gets_4_million_in_new.html|publisher=The Boston Globe|date=June 20, 2012}}{{Cite web|title=Company {{!}} Yesware|url=https://www.yesware.com/company|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211127173241/https://www.yesware.com/company|archive-date=27 November 2021|access-date=2022-02-08|website=www.yesware.com}} Bellows was a salesman by trade, and thought that the solutions at the time were tedious and inefficient in sales, and that the process of copying information into customer relationship management (CRM) systems was tedious and often poorly done. Because of these ideas, Yesware was created in an effort to assist salespeople with common sales tasks, and to extract relevant information for reporting purposes.{{cite web|last=Licata|first=Lauren|title=8 Affordable (Or Free) Tools That Boost Small Business Efficiency|url=http://www.business2community.com/small-business/8-affordable-free-tools-boost-small-business-efficiency-0711183#!qG7JF|publisher=Business 2 Community}}

In September 2011, Yesware released its beta version and raised a seed round of $1 million led by Google Ventures and the Foundry Group.{{cite web|last=Rao|first=Leena|title=Google Ventures, Foundry Group Put $1M In Yesware, Email Tracking And Productivity Platform For Salespeople|url=https://techcrunch.com/2011/09/27/google-ventures-foundry-group-put-1m-in-email-tracking-and-productivity-platform-for-salespeople-yesware/|publisher=TechCrunch|date=September 27, 2011}}{{cite web|last=Kirsner|first=Scott|title=Yesware launches e-mail tracking product for salespeople, collects $1 million from Google Ventures and Foundry Group|url=http://www.boston.com/business/technology/innoeco/2011/09/yesware_launches_e-mail_tracki.html|publisher=The Boston Globe|date=September 27, 2011}}

Two months after launch, in November 2011, the company had 2,000 registered users. One year later, the number of users grew to 100,000.{{cite web |last=Ribitzky |first=Romy |date=November 12, 2012 |title=Yesware Celebrates 100,000 Users, Looks to the Future |url=http://www.yesware.com/blog/2012/11/12/yesware-celebrates-100000-users-looks-ahead/ |publisher=Yesware}} The growth was attributed to word of mouth and searches within the Google Chrome and iPhone App stores.

That same year, Yesware was awarded the top sales productivity award at the Top Sales & Marketing Awards.{{cite web |last=Liyakasa |first=Kelly |date=April 2012 |title=The New Sales Toolkit |url=http://www.destinationcrm.com/Articles/Editorial/Magazine-Features/The-New-Sales-Toolkit-81563.aspx |publisher=Destination CRM}}{{cite web |last=Bellows |first=Matthew |date=December 16, 2011 |title=Yesware Takes Silver For "Top Sales Productivity Tool" |url=http://www.yesware.com/blog/2011/12/16/yesware-takes-silver-for-top-sales-productivity-tool/ |publisher=Yesware}}{{cite web |last=Kumar |first=AJ |date=January 23, 2012 |title=Five Ways to Tame Your Inbox |url=http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/222677 |publisher=Entrepreneur}}

In June 2012, Yesware followed up the seed round with a $4 million Series A round, again including investments from Google Ventures, the Foundry Group and others.{{cite web|url=https://techcrunch.com/2012/06/20/yeswares-email-platform-for-salespeople-rasies-4-million-from-idg-google-ventures-foundry-group-others/|title=Yesware's Email Platform For Salespeople Raises $4 Million From IDG, Google Ventures, Foundry Group & Others|last=Perez|first=Sarah|date=June 20, 2012|publisher=TechCrunch}}

After gaining enough funding, in November 2012, Yesware announced a beta integration with Salesforce, which allowed users to create new contacts, develop tasks, and view actionable reports within Yesware and Salesforce simultaneously.{{cite web|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/startups/2012/11/yesware-salesforce-hubspot-email.html?page=all|title=Yesware hits 100K users; won't be acquired by Salesforce or HubSpot|last=Alspach|first=Kyle|date=November 16, 2012|publisher=Boston Business Journal}}{{cite web|last=Ribitzky|first=Romy|title=Yesware Announces Salesforce Open Beta|url=http://www.yesware.com/blog/2012/11/15/yesware-salesforce-crm-integration/|publisher=Yesware|date=November 15, 2012}}

In 2013, the company attempted to move people from the Basic version of the software, which held most of the users, to the Paid version due to failing to turn a profit.{{Cite news |last=Grossmann |first=John |date=2014-08-20 |title=A Leader Struggles to Sell Software Meant to Aid Sales |language=en-US |work=The New York Times |url=https://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/21/business/smallbusiness/yeswares-matthew-bellows-on-his-ironic-challenge.html |access-date=2022-10-14 |issn=0362-4331}} This resulted in a change of roles, where Mike Haylon, a previous salesperson, was promoted to Director of Sales, while Bridget Gleason, having sales experience, was given the role of Vice President of Sales.{{Cite web |last=Grossmann |first=John |date=2014-08-27 |title=The C.E.O. of a Sales Software Company Faces Up to Sales Shortcomings |url=https://archive.nytimes.com/boss.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/08/27/the-c-e-o-of-a-sales-software-company-faces-up-to-the-companys-sales-shortcomings/ |access-date=2022-10-14 |website=You’re the Boss Blog |language=en}}
