Driving schemes for younger drivers have been set up throughout the UK in order to give driving experience to children before they reach driving age. These have been set up in car parks, racing tracks, and other suitable venues. Some of these driving experiences focus more on safety while other focus more on fun.{{cite web |url=https://www.youngdriver.eu/ |title=Home |website=youngdriver.eu}}

Statistics

Statistics from Rospa show that 3000 car drivers aged under 25 are killed or injured in Britain every year.{{cite web |url=http://www.rospa.com/RoadSafety/advice/youngdrivers/young_driver_survey.htm |title=RoSPA : Road Safety Advice : Young Drivers : Parents and Young Drivers – A Summary of Responses to Questionnaire Surveys |website=rospa.com |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060316230842/http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/advice/youngdrivers/young_driver_survey.htm |archive-date=2006-03-16}} Statistics also say that one in five new drivers crash within six months of passing their test. Swedish research has shown that accident rates fall when driving has been introduced before the age of 17.{{Cite news|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8525441.stm|title = Fears for learner drivers aged 11|date = 20 February 2010}}

These schemes for young people aim to help reduce these statistics by promoting driving at a younger age when children are more susceptible to learning and have better memory.{{cite web|url = https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/07/040722085301.htm |title = Children Can Have A Better Memory Than Adults (At Least Sometimes) -- ScienceDaily}} By doing this in a safe environment away from the public road, it is hoped that this will provide a basis for learner drivers' learning. There is, however, concern from safety groups that these schemes will prove to be detrimental to learning to drive.{{cite web |url=http://www.roadsafetygb.org.uk/news/848.htm |title=Police and RoSPA express concerns about 'Young Driver' scheme |website=roadsafetygb.org.uk |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120304025134/http://www.roadsafetygb.org.uk/news/848.htm |archive-date=2012-03-04}}
