Filming took place in August 1962 in Big Bend National Park, Texas. Saguaro cacti, seen throughout the film, however, only grow in Arizona, necessitating filming in Tucson, Arizona's old Tucson Studios.{{cite book|url=https://fiftieswesterns.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/highway-to-hollywood1.pdf|title=Highway to Hollywood|first=Maury|last=Dexter|date=2012|page=113}}
