Ysbyty’r tri Chwm ({{langx|en|Three Valleys Hospital}}) is a mental health facility in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, Wales. The site was opened in 1996. It is managed by the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

History

The hospital was commissioned to replace Pen-y-Fal Hospital in Abergavenny which closed the following year. Ysbyty’r Tri Chwm was officially opened by Glenys Kinnock in July 1996.{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=qWiIAwAAQBAJ&q=Ysbyty%E2%80%99r+Tri+Chwm+1996&pg=PT138|title=Ebbw Vale Through Time|first=Alan |last=Davies-Tudgay|publisher=Amberley|year=2011|isbn=978-1445600369}}{{cite web|url=https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/pensioner-calls-hospital-bus-service-2245933|title=Pensioner calls for hospital bus service|date=28 June 2007|publisher=Wales online|access-date=12 February 2019}}

The closure of Ebbw Vale Hospital in 2005 led to plans for a new hospital to be built in Ebbw Vale. The site around Ysbyty’r Tri Chwm was originally selected for the new construction. However, councillors later voted for the new Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan to be built on the site of a former steelworks.{{cite news |url=https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/4610692.steel-site-no-for-hospital/ |title=Steel site 'no' for hospital |newspaper=South Wales Argus |date=17 July 2003 |access-date=15 March 2020}}{{cite news |url=https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/4621644.new-hospital-may-be-open-by-2009/ |title=New hospital may be open by 2009 |newspaper=South Wales Argus |date=5 August 2005 |access-date=15 March 2020}} In 2019, plans were announced to move 15 beds from Ysbyty’r Tri Chwm to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny when Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran is completed, which is due to be opened in 2021.{{cite news |url=https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/17591107.the-radical-changes-on-the-cards-for-gwent-hospitals-in-preparation-for-the-opening-of-new-grange-university-hospital-in-cwmbran-and-how-they-will-affect-you/ |title=The radical changes on the cards for Gwent hospitals in preparation for the opening of new Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran and how they will affect you |newspaper=South Wales Argus |last=Rutherford |first=Andy |date=23 April 2019 |access-date=15 March 2020}}
