History

Railway extensions to Yumeshima were planned first back when Osaka was bidding as a host city for the 2008 Summer Olympics, in which Yumeshima was intended to have an Olympic village. However, the extension was cancelled after the bid failed, with only the Yumesaki Tunnel being completed before the construction was stopped.{{Cite web |date=2018-12-07 |title= |script-title=ja:2025年大阪万博の会場、夢洲はオリンピック開催候補地だった?浮き沈みする人工島の歴史を新聞・雑誌記事の掲載件数で追う |trans-title=Was Yumeshima, the site of the 2025 Osaka World Expo, a potential Olympic site?
