ZEB2-AS1

{{Infobox_gene}}

ZEB2-AS1 (ZEB2 antisense RNA 1) is a long non-coding RNA, which is overlapping and antisense to the ZEB2 gene.{{cite journal |vauthors=Nelles L, Van de Putte T, van Grunsven L, Huylebroeck D, Verschueren K |title=Organization of the mouse Zfhx1b gene encoding the two-handed zinc finger repressor Smad-interacting protein-1 |journal=Genomics |volume=82 |issue=4 |pages=460–469 |date=October 2003 |pmid=13679026 |doi= 10.1016/S0888-7543(03)00169-1}}{{cite journal |vauthors=Beltran M, Puig I, Peña C, etal |title=A natural antisense transcript regulates Zeb2/Sip1 gene expression during Snail1-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition |journal=Genes Dev. |volume=22 |issue=6 |pages=756–769 |date=March 2008 |pmid=18347095 |pmc=2275429 |doi=10.1101/gad.455708 }} It overlaps the 5′ splice site of an intron within the 5′UTR of the ZEB2 gene. This intron contains an internal ribosome entry site (IRES), which is necessary for ZEB2 expression. ZEB2-AS1 prevents the splicing of this intron, and therefore activates ZEB2 expression.
