Zaplava ({{Langx|uk|Заплава}}), known in 2016–2024 as Poima ({{Langx|uk|Пойма}}) and before 2016 as Tsiurupynsk ({{langx|uk|Цюрупинськ}}), is a rural-type settlement in Ukraine, located in Oleshky urban hromada, Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast.{{Cite web |last= |title=Пойма - Херсонська область |url=https://decentralization.gov.ua/locality/45910 |access-date=2023-10-18 |website=decentralization.gov.ua}}

History

In accordance with decommunization laws in Ukraine, Tsiurupynsk was renamed to Poima by the Ukrainian parliament in 2016.{{Cite web |title=Про перейменування окремих населених пунктів та районів |url=https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/go/1377-19 |access-date=2023-10-18 |website=Офіційний вебпортал парламенту України |language=uk}} The previous name, Tsiurupynsk, was given in honour of former CPSU Central Committee member and Gosplan chairman Alexander Tsiurupa, born in nearby Oleshky.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, it was occupied by Russia.

On 23 September 2023, the administration of Oleshky urban hromada began discussions on renaming Poima to Zaplava. This was as a result of a decision by the {{ill|National Commission for State Language Standards|uk|Національна комісія зі стандартів державної мови}} on 22 June, determining that the name of the settlement was not in line with state language standards, as it was a transliteration from Russian. Zaplava is the native Ukrainian equivalent of Poima. Poima was one of 43 settlements in Kherson Oblast recommended to be renamed in the decision.{{Cite news |last=Василевська |first=Єва |date=2023-09-23 |title=На Херсонщині селище Пойма пропонують перейменувати у Заплаву |language=uk |url=https://most.ks.ua/news/url/na-hersonschini-selische-pojma-proponujut-perejmenuvati-u-zaplavu/ |access-date=2023-11-16}}

Poima was reportedly recaptured by Ukraine on October 17, 2023 during an incursion across the Dnieper river.{{cite news|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/10/18/ukraine-russia-war-dnipro-river-cross-advance-poima-kyiv/|title=Ukrainian forces cross Dnipro river in major tactical advance|access-date=19 October 2023}}{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67058953 |title=Ukraine war: Kyiv troop build-up reported across Dnipro river |trans-title= |publisher=BBC News |date=2023-10-19 |access-date=2023-10-20 |website=bbc.com |language=en |author=Jaroslav Lukiv |quote="Geolocated footage published on 18 October indicates that Ukrainian forces advanced north of Pishchanivka (14km east of Kherson City and 3km from the Dnipro River) and into [the village of] Poyma (11km east of Kherson City and 4km from the Dnipro River)," the US-based think tank added. }} Day after, Russian forces retook the village.

In September 2024, Poima was renamed to Zaplava.{{Cite web |title= |script-title=uk:Про перейменування окремих населених пунктів та районів |trans-title=On renaming individual populated places and raions |url=https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/3984-IX#Text |access-date=2024-09-26 |website=Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine}}
