Military career

Zarrar Azim was commissioned into the Guides Cavalry in 1970 via 42 PMA Long Course. As a lieutenant colonel, he had commanded the 13th Lancers. He served as General officer commanding of 6th Armoured Division. In October 2001, he was appointed Corps Commander of IV Corps in Lahore, where he served until December 2003.
