It is located east of Murzuk and just to the southwest of Funqul.{{fact|date=August 2019}} A good high road is said to connect Zizau to Traghan, with frequent incrustations of salt. The village was visited by western explorers in 1822-24 who described it at the time as having "merely a few huts".{{cite book|last1=Denham|first1=Dixon|last2=Clapperton|first2=Hugh|last3=Oudney|first3=Walter|title=Narrative of travels and discoveries in Northern and Central Africa: in the years 1822, 1823, and 1824|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=JMENAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA1|access-date=18 September 2011|year=1826|publisher=John Murray}}
