Zoucheng ({{zh|s=邹城市|t=|p=Zōuchéng shì}}) is a county-level city in the south of Shandong province, China. Before it was incorporated as a city in October 1992, it was known as Zou County (邹县) or Zouxian.{{cite book|url=https://archive.org/details/confuciuschinese00loom_0|pages=[https://archive.org/details/confuciuschinese00loom_0/page/379 379]–384|first=James|last=Legge|author-link=James Legge

Zoucheng is located about 20 km south of the city of Qufu, and like Qufu, is administratively under the prefecture-level city of Jining. Its population was 1,116,692 at the 2010 census even though its built-up (or metro) area is much smaller.

Historical sites
The philosopher Mencius was born in Zoucheng, then within the feudal State of Zou. His descendants lived in Zoucheng all the way to the present. Some of them migrated to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War and to Korea during the Tang Dynasty. In the present day, there are four major sites in the city relating to Mencius: the Mencius Temple ({{zh|s={{linktext|孟|庙}}|t={{linktext|孟|廟}}|p=Mèng Miào}}), the Mencius Family Mansion ({{zh|labels=no |c={{linktext|孟|府}}|p=Mèng Fǔ}}), the Mencius Forest ({{zh|labels=no |c={{linktext|孟|林}}|p=Mèng Lín}}, {{coord|35|28|42.27|N|117|2|56.11|E|region:CN-37_type:landmark|display=inline}}), and Mencius' Mother's Forest ({{zh|labels=no |c={{linktext|孟|母|林}}|p=Mèng Mǔ Lín}}, {{coord|35|29|29.97|N|116|58|49.09|E|region:CN-37_type:landmark|display=inline}}).
The Mencius Temple, which covers an area of more than {{convert|4|ha|acre}} on the south side of town, has five courtyards and sixty-four halls and rooms. Its history dates back to the year 1037 in the Northern Song dynasty.{{cite web|url=http://www.china-travel-tour-guide.com/attractions/mengzi-temple.shtml|title=Mengzi Temple|access-date=31 July 2010|publisher=China Travel Tour Guide}} The Mencius Mansion, where his descendants lived, is adjacent to the temple, and has 116 halls and rooms.{{cite web|url=http://www.china-travel-tour-guide.com/attractions/mengzi-mansion.shtml|title=Mengzi Mansion|access-date=31 July 2010|publisher=China Travel Tour Guide}}
According to the management of the Mencius Temple, the temple grounds house over 270 stone steles and sculptures, some of which dating from as early as the Song dynasty.Overview of steles at the Temple of Mencius, placard on site. Among them are some Yuan dynasty stelae with inscriptions in 'Phags-pa script.{{cite web |url=http://www.chinamengzi.net/mzglwhdc/dccs/200712/2531_2.html |script-title=zh:孟子故里文化典藏丛书之五《孟庙孟府孟林》 |website=chinamengzi.net |date=December 2007 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20120527022549/http://www.chinamengzi.net/mzglwhdc/dccs/200712/2531_2.html |archive-date=27 May 2012 |url-status=dead}}
Immediately to the north of Zoucheng lies the tomb of the King of Lu of the Ming dynasty ({{lang|zh-hans|明鲁王墓}}). It is the tomb of Zhu Tan (1370-1389), the tenth son of the Hongwu Emperor of the Ming dynasty. There is also a royal tomb from the Han dynasty ({{lang|zh-hans|汉鲁王墓}}).
