Arteriotomy (or arterotomy) is a medical term for an opening or cut of an artery wall.{{cite book|last1=Kirk|first1=R. M.|last2=Winslet|first2=Marc C.|title=Essential General Surgical Operations|date=2007|publisher=Elsevier Health Sciences|isbn=978-0443103148|page=261|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=T4bUKXR508wC&q=Arteriotomy|accessdate=8 November 2017|language=en}} It is a common step in many vascular surgical procedures and operations. The corresponding term for an incision into a vein is a venotomy.

Either a transverse or a longitudinal incision can be made (with respect to the direction of the artery), depending on the situation. The incision is typically made with a scalpel and extended with surgical scissors.{{cite book|last1=Wahlberg|first1=Eric|last2=Goldstone|first2=Jerry|title=Emergency Vascular Surgery: A Practical Guide|date=2017|publisher=Springer|isbn=9783662540190|page=201|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=U248DwAAQBAJ&q=Arteriotomy|accessdate=8 November 2017|language=en}}
