blank value

{{for|use in computing|Empty string}}

A blank value in analytical chemistry is a measurement of a blank. The reading does not originate from a sample, but the matrix effects, reagents and other residues. These contribute to the sample value in the analytical measurement and therefore have to be subtracted.{{GoldBookRef|title=blank value|file=B00679}}

The limit of blank is defined by the Clinical And Laboratory Standards Institute as the highest apparent analyte concentration expected to be found when replicates of a sample containing no analyte are tested.{{cite journal| author=Armbruster DA, Pry T| title=Limit of blank, limit of detection and limit of quantitation. | journal=Clin Biochem Rev | year= 2008 | volume= 29 | issue= Suppl 1| pages= S49-52 | pmid=18852857 | doi= | pmc=2556583 }}
